Rincón de la Victoria is getting ready to become one of Málaga province’s main gastronomic meeting points for several days. The Sabor a Málaga Fair will arrive in the municipality from Friday, 11 September to Sunday, 13 September 2026, with a programme that goes far beyond simply browsing stalls and buying local products.

Plaza Al Ándalus will bring together 32 producers from Málaga province, offering wines, cheeses, extra virgin olive oils, honey, chocolates, bread, cured meats, pastries and other specialities made in different parts of the province.

The event will also form part of the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano, which begins a few days earlier, on Tuesday, 8 September, and will turn one of the products most closely linked to Rincón de la Victoria’s maritime identity into the centrepiece of six days of celebrations.

There will be live cooking, free anchovy tastings, concerts, activities for children, food and drink tastings, a recreation of traditional fishing techniques and dozens of restaurants creating their own interpretations of this small blue fish.

Altogether, the 2026 edition will place the anchovy at the heart of both traditional local cuisine and much more creative culinary proposals.

When is the Sabor a Málaga Fair in Rincón de la Victoria?

The Sabor a Málaga Fair will open on Friday, 11 September at 11:00 am in Plaza Al Ándalus.

On the first day, visitors will be able to browse the stalls until 10:00 pm, with the same opening hours on Saturday.

On Sunday 13, the final day of both the fair and the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano, the stalls will reopen at 11:00 am and close at 9:00 pm.

These are the main opening hours:

  • Friday, 11 September: 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
  • Saturday, 12 September: 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
  • Sunday, 13 September: 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.
  • Location: Plaza Al Ándalus, Rincón de la Victoria.

The official opening of the fair is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday.

32 producers will bring flavours from across Málaga province

One of the biggest attractions will be the stalls themselves.

Visitors will be able to meet 32 producers from across Málaga province and discover a selection that offers a gastronomic tour of the region without leaving Rincón de la Victoria.

Products on offer will include wines, extra virgin olive oils, artisan cheeses, organic bread, honey, chocolates, liqueurs, jams, cured meats, traditional sweets, coffee and craft beer, among others.

The philosophy behind Sabor a Málaga is precisely to bring consumers closer to products linked to the province and to create direct contact between local producers and the public.

But during this particular weekend, the fair will have one additional star ingredient.

The boquerón victoriano will feature prominently throughout the programme.

More than 1,100 kilos of anchovies for tastings

Anyone visiting Rincón de la Victoria during the celebration will have plenty of opportunities to try anchovies beyond the main fair.

The programme includes the distribution of more than 1,100 kilos of anchovies through different tastings linked to the festival.

Participating establishments will serve portions of fried anchovies and anchovies in vinegar, mainly during lunch and dinner hours and while supplies last.

At the Sabor a Málaga Fair itself, there will also be a charity tent supporting the Rincón Contigo association, where visitors will be able to taste anchovies as part of an initiative organised with the collaboration of Cervezas Victoria.

The festival will therefore extend well beyond Plaza Al Ándalus.

Restaurants throughout the municipality will also take part, creating a wider gastronomic route around different areas of Rincón de la Victoria.

The Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano starts earlier: from 8 to 13 September

Although the Sabor a Málaga Fair begins on Friday 11, the wider gastronomic celebration actually starts three days earlier.

The 2026 Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano will run from Tuesday, 8 September to Sunday, 13 September, reaching its tenth edition under its current format based on live cooking, restaurants and maritime culture.

The event is recognised as a Provincial Tourist Singularity Festival and uses the anchovy as a starting point to explore heritage, fishing, cuisine and the local territory.

Across six days, there will be showcookings, tastings and activities linked to the municipality’s seafaring traditions.

Four evenings of showcookings with anchovies in the spotlight

The live cooking programme will begin on Tuesday, 8 September at 8:30 pm at La Calma Playa.

The opening session will be led by Enrique Sánchez, presenter of Canal Sur’s popular cooking programme Cómetelo.

Wednesday 9 will feature El boquerón tiene historia — “The anchovy has history” — bringing together professionals who took part in previous editions.

Those taking part include Juan Antonio Aguilar alongside Guadalupe Montejo; Abilio Arteaga with José Andrés Jiménez; and Reyna Traverso with Pepo Frade.

On Thursday 10, the session entitled El boquerón de la capitalidad gastronómica will feature Fran Rascado, cocktail specialist Hugo Boscovich, and the duo formed by Ana Rollán Serrano and Guadalupe Peñalver Ramírez.

All three sessions will begin at 8:30 pm at La Calma Playa.

The final showcooking moves to Plaza Al Ándalus

On Friday, the setting changes.

With the Sabor a Málaga Fair already underway, the final live cooking session will take place at 8:30 pm in Plaza Al Ándalus.

Under the title De Rincón, el boquerón, the session will feature Cristina Vargas Pérez from La Quisquillosa and Gonzalo Roldán from La Finca, both representing restaurants based in the municipality.

Unlike the previous sessions, this showcooking will have free admission until capacity is reached and no advance booking will be required.

For the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday events at La Calma Playa, visitors will need to obtain free tickets in advance. Reservations will be available from 3 September at 10:00 am through Zibarit or at the Municipal Tourist Office.

A Saturday of maritime tradition: seine-net fishing and a fishermen’s breakfast

Saturday 12 will begin long before the fair stalls reopen.

At 8:00 am, next to the San Juan stream, there will be a recreation of the traditional tira del copo, organised with the collaboration of the Club de Remo de La Cala del Moral.

This historic method of fishing forms part of the collective memory of the Málaga coastline and adds a cultural dimension to a festival that is not solely focused on food.

One hour later, at 9:00 am, a traditional desayuno marengo, or fishermen’s breakfast, is scheduled at the pergola of the rowing club’s boatyard.

The Sabor a Málaga stalls will reopen at 11:00 am.

Live music throughout the weekend

Food and maritime traditions will be joined by live music.

On Saturday, Iván Zea will perform at 2:00 pm, while Miranda Cuenca will take over at 8:00 pm.

On Sunday, the morning programme will turn its attention to younger visitors.

At 12:00 noon, children will be able to enjoy Las Aventuras de Peneque El Valiente.

The musical finale will arrive at 7:00 pm with Señor Mirinda, just a few hours before the 2026 fair comes to an end.

Wine, cheese, olive oil and chocolate tastings

There will be plenty more to do between performances.

The Sabor a Málaga Fair will include tastings and activities featuring wines, cheeses, olive oils, chocolates and other products from the province.

There will also be food workshops, children’s activities, pairings and product presentations.

The aim is for visitors not only to buy finished products, but also to learn how they are made, what makes them distinctive and who the producers behind them are.

The programme will also include the second edition of the popular anchovies-in-vinegar competition, putting one of the best-known ways of preparing this fish to the test.

57 restaurants will reinvent the boquerón victoriano

The Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano also extends well beyond Rincón de la Victoria.

The Boquerón Victoriano Restaurant Network will include 57 establishments in 2026, fifteen more than the previous year.

Each restaurant has created a special dish with anchovies as the main ingredient.

And this is perhaps one of the most interesting parts of the event.

Alongside familiar examples of Málaga cuisine, visitors will find recipes influenced by Asian, Mexican, Italian, contemporary and fine-dining traditions.

Most dishes in the network will cost between €2 and €24, while René in Málaga city will include its anchovy creation within a full tasting menu priced at €160.

Rincón’s anchovy reaches Madrid and Almería

The restaurant network also shows that the festival has long since grown beyond its original local boundaries.

Participating restaurants are spread across ten municipalities and locations, including Rincón de la Victoria and its different districts, Málaga city, Madrid, Antequera, Archidona, Estepona, La Cala de Mijas, Marbella and Vélez-Málaga.

In 2026, it will also extend into Almería province for the first time, specifically to Aguadulce.

Each establishment will create its own interpretation of the product, turning the initiative into a gastronomic route that reaches far beyond the place where the festival was originally born.

A weekend to discover why anchovies remain part of Rincón’s identity

The combination of the Sabor a Málaga Fair and the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano makes the second weekend of September one of the busiest gastronomic moments in Rincón de la Victoria’s annual calendar.

For three days, Plaza Al Ándalus will bring together producers from across the province, live cooking, tastings, music and family activities.

But the celebration will be much broader than that.

Restaurants will take anchovies beyond their most traditional preparations and use them in contemporary recipes, while activities such as the tira del copo will serve as a reminder that long before the fish reached the plate, generations of local families built their lives around the sea and fishing.

That balance between tradition and new ways of cooking is precisely why the anchovy continues to have a place both in a simple fried dish by the beach and in an ambitious signature recipe.
