Canela Party 2026 Turns Torremolinos into a Celebration of Music and Costumes
Hundreds of festivalgoers attended the final day in costume, sharing the spotlight with bands including Carolina Durante, Nation of Language, Wavves and Deafheaven.
A Different Kind of Final Day in Torremolinos
Canela Party brought its 2026 edition to a close with one of the most eagerly anticipated days of the programme. On Saturday 29 August, the Torremolinos fairground once again filled with alternative music, confetti and costumes for the conclusion of three days of live performances.
The final night featured something that distinguishes this event from many other music festivals: the entertainment was not limited to the stages. Hundreds of visitors arrived in costume, transforming the venue from the early evening onwards.
Film characters, musical references, imaginary creatures and creations that resisted any straightforward description appeared throughout the crowd. Some groups coordinated their clothes, makeup and accessories, turning their arrival into a performance of its own.
The Audience Takes Centre Stage
Saturday’s traditional costume party is one of Canela Party’s defining features. It reverses the usual relationship at a concert: while the audience watches the musicians, the bands themselves have plenty of reasons to look towards the crowd.
The areas surrounding the stages became a constantly changing display of colours, masks, wigs and elaborate outfits. The effort made by many festivalgoers meant that every walk through the venue revealed new characters and unexpected scenes.
This collective participation explains much of the festival’s distinctive atmosphere. Canela Party is not simply about watching a programme of concerts. It invites visitors to become part of a celebration in which creativity and humour are almost as important as the music.
Carolina Durante and Deafheaven Among the Final-Day Highlights
Saturday’s line-up brought together several different approaches to alternative music. Amor Líquido opened the programme before performances by Joseluis, Sandré and Brazilian musician Karen Dió.
American surf-rock and punk band Wavves appeared later in the evening, followed by Nation of Language and their synthesiser-led sound influenced by previous generations of electronic music.
Carolina Durante provided one of the most eagerly awaited performances for the Spanish audience. The Madrid band returned to Canela Party with its direct songs and an energetic live presence capable of creating constant movement in front of the stage.
Deafheaven then shifted the atmosphere with a combination of black metal, post-rock and expansive instrumental passages. Upchuck, Las Petunias, Chalk and Cervatana kept the music going into the early hours and completed the festival’s final programme.
Three Days of Alternative Music
Canela Party began on Thursday 27 August and continued into the early hours of Sunday. Across its three days, the line-up combined Spanish performers with bands from several countries, covering indie, punk, experimental rock, electronic music and heavier sounds.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Basement, Baiuca and Speed appeared during the opening day. Friday’s programme included Ángeles Toledano, Mannequin Pussy, High Vis, La Paloma and Rufus T. Firefly.
This variety made it possible to alternate established names with projects still being discovered by a wider audience. The mixture, combined with the close relationship between performers and festivalgoers, has helped Canela Party develop an identity far removed from more conventional festival formats.
More Than a Series of Concerts
The 2026 edition once again demonstrated that Canela Party is shaped by both the music and everything happening between performances. Its informal atmosphere, spontaneous encounters and invitation to participate make the audience an essential part of the event.
Saturday captured this approach particularly well. While the bands occupied the stages, the costumes kept the entertainment moving through the crowd. By the final night, it had become difficult to distinguish between spectators and performers.
Canela Party 2026 took place from 27 to 29 August at the Torremolinos fairground, according to the festival’s official information.
