A New Tourism Project for Caleta de Vélez

Caleta de Vélez could expand its accommodation offering with the construction of a four-star hotel on the beachfront. The complex is planned for the former Villa Toto site, one of the coastal town’s most promising locations for tourism development.

Plans include approximately 148 sea-facing rooms and a range of facilities intended to attract both holidaymakers visiting the Axarquía and companies or organisations looking for venues for meetings and events.

Vélez-Málaga Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez and Urban Planning Councillor Celestino Rivas have met with the project’s developers to discuss the technical details of the proposed complex and review its progress.

Swimming Pools, Spa and Event Facilities

The hotel will feature both outdoor and indoor swimming pools, allowing it to operate beyond the peak summer season. Other planned facilities include a wellness spa, gym, restaurant and landscaped outdoor areas.

A dedicated function room will also be equipped to host conventions, business meetings and private celebrations. This combination will enable the hotel to target the corporate and events market alongside traditional leisure tourism.

Its Mediterranean seafront location is expected to become one of the property’s main attractions. The concept aims to make the most of Caleta de Vélez’s coastal surroundings while providing the services associated with an upscale hotel.

Supporting Year-Round Tourism

The inclusion of indoor amenities and event facilities is designed to reduce the hotel’s dependence on the summer season. Its spa, covered pool and convention space could help attract visitors at other times of the year.

The development would also increase the availability of higher-category accommodation in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga. Most of the area’s existing four-star hotels are currently concentrated in Torre del Mar, while Caleta de Vélez has a more limited selection of places to stay.

The coastal town nevertheless offers several visitor attractions, including its beach, marina and fishing harbour, local restaurants and proximity to Torre del Mar, Vélez-Málaga and other destinations across the Axarquía.

Potential Benefits for the Local Economy

The hotel’s construction and subsequent operation could create jobs and increase demand for services in Caleta de Vélez. Restaurants, shops, leisure businesses and local suppliers are among those that could benefit from a rise in visitor numbers.

The development would also bring the former Villa Toto site back into use through a tourism project connected to the seafront. It is being presented as a strategic investment capable of strengthening the municipality’s position within the tourism market of the eastern Costa del Sol.

However, no investment figures, employment estimates or details about the future hotel operator have yet been announced.

No Construction or Opening Date Yet

The project remains at the technical development and administrative planning stage. Its promoters have not confirmed when construction could begin or how long the building work would take.

No prospective opening date has been announced either. Progress will depend on the completion of the necessary technical and administrative procedures before work can start.

The hotel should therefore still be regarded as a developing proposal. If completed, it would bring a new four-star property to Caleta de Vélez, combining leisure accommodation with wellness and event facilities.
