One of the most famous musicals in history is coming to Málaga this summer. ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ will open at Teatro Cervantes on Friday, 3 July 2026, and will remain on stage until Sunday, 9 August.

The production will close the venue’s 2025–2026 season with a total of 45 performances spread across six weeks. Shows will take place from Wednesday to Sunday, with both afternoon and evening performances on many weekends.

The Málaga run also forms part of the first Spanish tour of this Spanish-language production, following two seasons in Madrid and performances in several cities across the country.

Daniel Diges leads the cast of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’

Actor and singer Daniel Diges will play Erik, the mysterious masked figure who lives beneath the Paris Opera House. He has previously appeared in major stage productions including Les Misérables and Kinky Boots.

He will be joined by Ana San Martín as Christine Daaé, the young soprano whose talent awakens the Phantom’s obsession. The leading trio is completed by Seville-born actor Rubén López, who will play Viscount Raoul de Chagny.

Manu Pilas will also alternate in the role of the Phantom, while Judith Tobella will share the role of Christine.

The cast also includes Marta Pineda as Carlotta, Enrique R. del Portal as Monsieur André, Eduardo Santamaría as Monsieur Firmin, Fran Ortiz as Piangi, Isabel Malavia as Madame Giry and Sofía Esteve as Meg Giry.

A story of love, obsession and mystery beneath the Paris Opera House

The musical is based on Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, the novel published by French author Gaston Leroux in 1910.

The story follows a masked figure who lives hidden in the underground passages of the Paris Opera House. From there, he exerts a disturbing influence over those who work in the theatre and falls deeply in love with Christine Daaé, a young singer with extraordinary talent.

The Phantom becomes her mysterious teacher and tries to advance her career by any means necessary. However, the arrival of Raoul, Christine’s childhood friend, creates a love triangle marked by jealousy, passion and obsession.

The story combines romance, suspense and tragedy with large-scale scenery and one of musical theatre’s most recognisable scores.

The musical’s best-known songs will be performed in Málaga

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music is one of the production’s main attractions.

During the performances at Teatro Cervantes, audiences will hear famous songs including:

• The Music of the Night.
• All I Ask of You.
• Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.
• Masquerade.
• The iconic overture from The Phantom of the Opera.

The Spanish adaptation of the libretto was created by Silvia Montesinos, while the production is directed by Federico Bellone.

Julio Awad is responsible for the musical direction, work that earned this version the 2024 Talía Award. Jorge Molina will oversee the musical direction during the tour.

The costumes designed by Chiara Donato have also received recognition from audiences at the BroadwayWorld Spain Awards.

More than 160 million spectators worldwide

Since opening in London’s West End in October 1986, The Phantom of the Opera has become one of the greatest international successes in musical theatre.

The show has been seen by around 160 million spectators in 195 cities and performed in 21 languages. Throughout its history, it has received more than 70 major theatre awards.

The musical opened on Broadway in January 1988 and, in 2006, became the longest-running show in Broadway history after surpassing the 7,486 performances achieved by Cats.

The Spanish-language production attracted more than 300,000 spectators during its two seasons in Madrid. It then began a national tour covering more than 20 cities, which will continue until early 2027.

Dates and times for ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ in Málaga

The 45 performances will take place at Teatro Cervantes between 3 July and 9 August 2026.

As a general rule, the schedule will be:

• Wednesdays and Thursdays: 9:00 pm.
• Fridays: 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, except for the opening night on 3 July, which will begin at 9:00 pm.
• Saturdays: 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
• Sundays: 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, with some variations during the first few dates.

The first performance will take place on Friday, 3 July at 9:00 pm. There will be two performances on Saturday, 4 July, at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, while Sunday, 5 July will feature a single show at 5:00 pm.

The final day will be Sunday, 9 August, with performances at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets for The Phantom of the Opera in Málaga range from €22 to €75, depending on the area selected inside Teatro Cervantes.

Seats are divided into four categories:

• Zone A: €75.
• Zone B: €56.
• Zone C: €40.
• Zone D: €22.

Wednesday and Thursday performances at 9:00 pm include a 20% discount.

The large number of performances gives audiences a wide choice of dates and times, although booking in advance is recommended to secure seats in the areas with the best visibility.

Where will ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ be performed in Málaga?

The musical will be staged at Teatro Cervantes de Málaga, located on Calle Ramos Marín in the heart of the historic city centre.

The venue is close to Plaza de la Merced, the Roman Theatre and Calle Granada. Due to its central location, visitors are advised to use public transport or one of the nearby public car parks.

The theatre recommends arriving with sufficient time to find seats and avoid delays when entering the auditorium.

The production uses smoke and strobe lighting

The organisers warn that smoke machines and strobe lighting effects are used during some parts of the musical.

Flashing and intermittent lights may affect people with photosensitivity and, in some cases, could trigger seizures or fainting.

Audience members who may be affected by these effects should take this into account before purchasing tickets or attending the performance.

A major musical to close the Teatro Cervantes season

The arrival of The Phantom of the Opera will be one of Málaga’s main cultural events of summer 2026.

Its combination of a universal story, an internationally recognised score and a large-scale production will give Málaga audiences the opportunity to enjoy one of musical theatre’s most important shows over six weeks.
