A few days ago, The Gourmet Journal highlighted a churrería in Málaga as one of the best in Spain. Now, it's National Geographic who has mapped out an exclusive route through the best chocolates with churros in the country, including in their list two establishments in the province of Málaga: Churrería Marbella, in the heart of Marbella, and Los Valle, a landmark in the capital. Both are among the top 14 in Spain, sharing the spotlight with iconic venues in cities like Madrid, Sevilla, or Zaragoza.

Churrería Marbella

Regarding Churrería Marbella, located in Plaza de la Victoria, the magazine highlights its authentic atmosphere right in the historical center of the coastal city: "It's well worth the initials A.M to justify the time at which it is advisable, especially in summer, to turn up at Marbella's Plaza de la Victoria, in the historic center of the coastal city, because the churros at Churrería Marbella sell out fast".

It is a classic in Marbella and a meeting point for both locals and tourists, who enjoy a gastronomic experience in a quiet tree-lined square. "The churro canon, as usual in Andalusia, is based on the happy idyll between tejeringos and hot chocolate with which to start the day or indulge in a mid-afternoon treat", National Geographic describes. They also recommend following the advice of Marbella chef Dani García, who suggests a curious technique to fully enjoy them: "A tip: try the churros with a little sugar before dipping them in the chocolate".

Cafetería Los Valle

In Málaga capital, the focus is on the historic Cafetería Los Valle, located on Cuarteles Street. This business, with over 75 years of history, has been passed down through three generations since its opening in 1945 and is an iconic place for any Malagueño who wishes to enjoy the traditional tejeringos. "There is no Malagueño, young or old, who hasn't had a tejeringo from Los Valle in their hands at some time", the magazine points out.

National Geographic also reveals the secret to their success: "The secret, obviously, is in the dough – a mix of strong flour and plain flour, plus salt and bicarbonate. Along with this, a touch of dough from the previous day, which helps to strengthen the rise and allows forgoing the yeast". This artisanal recipe results in thick and juicy tejeringos, a classic snack that retains its charm over time, especially at Christmas.
