A fair marked by doubts about the definitive fairgrounds begins in Marbella

Marbella has kicked off its Fair and Festivities in honor of San Bernabé, marked by the absence of a permanent fairground, a facility that many neighboring municipalities possess. The construction of a venue to host the celebrations dedicated to the town's patron saint is one of the projects that the local government has repeatedly announced, though it has not come to fruition after years of declarations. At the beginning of June, the City Council announced an urban measure to delineate an area of about 80,000 square meters to the north of the urban center and the covering of a stream to set up a definitive fairground in the area. The project includes a large landscaped avenue, separate areas for children's and adults' attractions, dining zones, day and night booths, and an auditorium. "This is a priority project for Marbella. It will allow us to have a top-level permanent fairground," the government team states. However, the project is part of a broader action that includes the construction of about 1,330 homes and the building of facilities and road connections over an area of about 365,000 square meters, which would condition the construction of the permanent fairground. "The fairground will be executed progressively as the urbanization of the Arroyo Segundo sector advances and the different planned execution phases are completed," explains the government team. The Marbella fairground, which this year will have an additional 10,000 square meters, has been set up since 2022 on various plots located in Arroyo Segundo that private entities temporarily lend to the City Council for the event. The closing of the Marbella fair will feature a concert of Andalusian rock, with performances by Medina Azahara, Manzanita, and a tribute to the group Triana on a stage located on Avenida Ramón y Cajal. The proclamation of the Fair was delivered yesterday by Aurelio Gómez Gutiérrez, a municipal worker linked to the organization of festive events in Marbella; while the entrance arch to the Day Fair, located in the urban center, will be dedicated to the motorcycle club Los Mentirosos, in homage to their trajectory.
