Estepona will host a school solidarity march against cancer on May 30th.
The initiative will raise funds to cover the free services provided by the AECC in the city. Work begins on the improvement of the Camino de los Pedregales, which connects Estepona and Casares.
The city of Estepona will host a school solidarity march against cancer on May 30th, with the aim of raising funds for the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) to support the free services it offers in the municipality to cancer patients and their families, as announced by the City Council this Wednesday.
The councilor assigned to the Citizen Participation department, María Aguilar; the president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer of Estepona, Julia Crespo; and the director of the Santo Tomás de Aquino Primary and Infant Education Center (CEIP), Paqui Fernández Torres, were responsible for presenting the charity event today.
The municipal representative thanked AECC Estepona for this initiative, in which the educational community will participate and which represents not only an opportunity to raise funds for this great cause, but also to "educate in values, raise awareness and help children understand what it means to help," as pointed out by the City Hall in a statement.
For her part, Julia Crespo explained that it will be a non-competitive, 3-kilometer, simple and accessible walk, designed for the participation of the whole family.
She also mentioned that the goals of the initiative are to promote solidarity and raise awareness among the population about helping others.
Additionally, the initiative aims to promote healthy habits, raise funds that will be allocated to the free services offered by AECC Estepona, and bring the association's work closer to educational centers, she added.
The procedure followed, as explained by the director of CEIP Santo Tomás de Aquino, is that each enrolled student has sought sponsors who contribute with small financial donations. In this way, the children are actively involved and understand the value of helping.
