The Marbella Ceuta Intercontinental Regatta will bring together 150 participants this Friday

Tomorrow, Friday, May 1st, the docks of the Royal Maritime Club of Marbella will host the VIII Marbella Ceuta Intercontinental Regatta, which will gather around 150 participants and 25 boats from across the nation, as reported this Thursday by the Sports Councilor, Lisandro Vieytes.

During the presentation of the event, the councilor highlighted that it "continues to consolidate and position the municipality as a reference for hosting major sporting events," emphasizing "the impact of the meeting, both at a sporting and tourist level, and its contribution to reinforcing the image of Marbella as a premier destination."

Vieytes valued the collaboration between the City Council, the Sports Port, and the Royal Maritime Club, highlighting their role in organizing high-level events and their contribution to positioning the city within the nautical sphere, according to a municipal statement.

The councilor invited citizens and visitors to enjoy both the departure and arrival of the boats, as well as the activities scheduled around this sporting event. Moreover, he wished good luck to the participants, especially those representing Marbella, such as Iñaqui Castañer and Paco Aranda among others.

Sports Program

On his part, the sailing board member, Daniel Cuevas, detailed the development of the competition, which will officially start tomorrow with the departure from Marbella at 10:30 AM towards Ceuta. “We continue with roughly the same level of participants; we will have around 25 boats and 150 sailors,” he noted.

The sports program includes three stages, with the first connecting Marbella with Ceuta, while the second will run between Ceuta and Sotogrande on Saturday, and the third and final day will take place on Sunday, covering the Sotogrande–Marbella route.

Weather Forecast

Regarding the weather conditions, the first stage is expected to be marked by light south winds turning west, with intensities between 7 and 12 knots, which could prolong the journey until the afternoon.

For Saturday, May 2nd, an east wind ranging from 8 to 15 knots is expected, with the possibility of showers, which will favor a faster stage. The final day on Sunday, May 3rd, will be influenced by weak westerly winds that will increase throughout the day, according to Cuevas, who thanked “the City Council for the effort and the Virgen del Carmen Sports Port for the facilities and the help provided to carry out this event.”
