Estepona will allocate more than 7 million to maintain the tax reduction in 2026

The Estepona City Council will allocate more than 7 million euros this year to maintain tax reductions in the city, mainly to provide a tax rebate to registered residents on the Property Tax (IBI) and to exempt the most vulnerable groups from the garbage collection fee, as reported by the City Council this Friday.

Specifically, the City Council highlighted in a statement that 6,624,365.11 euros are planned for the IBI rebate and another 143,804.28 euros for the exemption from the garbage fee, which represents a savings for the pockets of the residents of Estepona.

Mayor José María García Urbano emphasized that with these measures, the City Council continues to show its fiscal support for all families in Estepona, especially the most vulnerable groups, maintaining the commitment not to raise taxes on citizens and to offer help to those who need it most. And this has been achieved without reducing investments or service provision, he pointed out.

The City Council recalled that the IBI bill has accumulated a 50% reduction on average since 2012, thanks to measures implemented by the City Council, after reaching zero debt last year.

It has also added a 3% reduction for the IBI, as well as for the Business Activities Tax (IAE) and the garbage fee, for those who have automated their bill payment and do so within the voluntary payment period.

This IBI reduction is also favored by the 50% reduction in the cadastral values of properties carried out in 2016, to adjust them to market reality, the local administration pointed out.

In general terms, the average IBI bill has gone from 723 to 556 euros in 2011, achieving this year an accumulated reduction of 167 euros on average since that year. To benefit from the residency-based rebate, individuals will not need to request it, as the City Council will apply it automatically.

Garbage Fee

Regarding the garbage fee, it was recalled that retirees and long-term unemployed residents in the town will be exempt from payment, benefiting about 1,812 bills. Regarding this tax, the City Council has emphasized that it recently activated a 3% bonus for residents who recycle at the clean point, with a minimum of three deliveries per year.

Additionally, it highlighted other fiscal support measures, such as the elimination of the opening fee for 35 types of economic activities; a 75% rebate on the opening fee for vulnerable groups; a rebate on the Business Activities Tax (IAE) for industrial activity in industrial estates; and a 50% reduction in the public thoroughfare occupation fee for merchants who comply with the municipal ordinance in this respect.

The fiscal ordinance also includes a reduction in the capital gains tax to facilitate property buying and selling. At the same time, it maintains the pioneering municipal measure of exempting those affected by mortgage foreclosures or evictions from payment. Additionally, a 75% rebate on the Motor Vehicle Tax (IVTM) is offered for electric and hybrid cars, aiming to promote a more environmentally sustainable city.
