The 32nd edition of the Torre del Mar Triathlon will be held on April 12th.

On April 12, one of the "most established" events in the province of Málaga and the Andalusian calendar will take place, the XXXII edition of the Torre del Mar Triathlon. On that day, athletes, family members, locals, and visitors will gather around an event, which, as highlighted by the city council, is "now emblematic on the Vélez-Málaga coast".

The event will feature, as explained by the general director of the competition, Guillermo Hervás, two distances: a sprint category, whose cycling route will extend to Cajiz and return to Torre del Mar, and an Olympic category, which will extend by bike to Iznate, also returning to the starting point.

The swimming race, which will kick off the competition, will take place in the area in front of the 'Son de Rebalaje' beach bar, where the buoys for the course will be located. Afterwards, the running race will take place along the Paseo de Levante, on a round-trip route of five kilometers for the sprint distance and ten kilometers for the Olympic distance.

The city council apologizes for the issues in the previous edition

For his part, the first deputy mayor, Jesús Pérez Atencia, has highlighted the significance of an event that now reaches its 32nd year of history, making it one of the "most important and recognized in the province". In this regard, he emphasized that this new edition also comes with significant improvements, designed to enhance the competition, make it more dynamic and attractive for participants, and at the same time more compatible with the daily life of locals and visitors.

For his part, the Sports Councilor, Manuel Gutiérrez, focused on the full recovery of a "historic event" for the municipality and started his speech by apologizing for the problems that arose in the previous edition, when various issues related to last-minute permits led to a difficult decision. In this regard, he stressed that safety is always a fundamental aspect in any sports event and assured that this situation “is now in the past”.

Gutiérrez confirmed that this year's edition comes with all permits granted and all authorizations in order, allowing the event to be held with full guarantee. The councilor highly valued the return of the triathlon to the streets of Torre del Mar, taking advantage of spaces such as the promenade and the coastal environment, which makes the competition a very attractive event both from a sporting and organizational point of view.

The Vélez-Málaga City Council has encouraged athletes from all over Andalusia and the rest of the country to participate in this new edition, as well as locals and visitors to enjoy a sports day that will once again position Torre del Mar as a benchmark in the organization of outdoor events.
