Estepona launches a floral campaign with more than 400,000 plants for spring

The Estepona City Council has begun the planting of species in municipal green areas for the spring-summer season, which will be beautified with more than 400,000 specimens of various flower and shrub species, as reported this Tuesday by the deputy mayor of External Services and Control, Blas Ruzafa.

The councilor noted that the work began after the end of the most intense rainfall period, with the aim of having public spaces look their best during the peak tourist season, which will continue until August.

The municipal official emphasized that all plants come from the municipal nursery, allowing for resource optimization and reducing the economic cost of such an intervention, while ensuring the quality and adaptation of the species to the local climate.

The planting work is being carried out on the city's main avenues, the seafront promenade, the entrances to the town of Estepona, the squares of the historic center, and in various peripheral areas, as reported by the City Council in a statement.

Flower and Shrub Species

Among the selected varieties are lobelias, marigolds, nemesias, gazanias, pansies, and begonias, as well as different shrub species being incorporated in specific locations such as Litoral Avenue. Simultaneously, the municipal nursery continues to analyze the potential incorporation of new specimens, conducting trials periodically to check their behavior and adaptation at different points in the municipality.

The spring-summer campaign is characterized especially by the choice of intense shades and striking compositions, transforming flower beds and roundabouts into spaces of great visual appeal. In this regard, Ruzafa has highlighted the dedication and creativity of the municipal gardening team, which carefully designs each floral combination to offer a harmonious and attractive appearance.

This initiative is part of the project ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’, which has become one of the main distinctive elements of the municipality. The constant renewal of floral species is key to maintaining the high level of conservation and aesthetics of public spaces and consolidating the city as a national benchmark in garden care and maintenance.

Finally, the councilor recalled that Estepona currently has over 800,000 square meters of public green space, representing a 60 percent increase since 2012. This growth has allowed the municipality to double the national average of green space per inhabitant, thus strengthening its commitment to sustainability and quality of life.
