The Lope de Vega Theater, as announced by this newspaper, will reopen its doors on March 20 with a gala, as announced by the Vélez city council, "very special", which will mark the return of cultural activity to a theatrical space closed for almost two decades. For this, there will be a show featuring local artists to pay tribute to the history of the theater.

To ensure that as many residents as possible can attend this cultural event, the city council has arranged a system of free invitations. These can be collected starting Tuesday, March 17 at 5:00 PM at the Lope de Vega Theater box office, with a maximum of two invitations per person.

The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, accompanied by the creator and director of the show, Salvador Conde, has revealed the details of an evening that has been conceived as a tribute to the history of the theater and the culture of the city, counting on the participation of numerous local artists.

The day will begin at 7:00 PM with the opening of doors, at 7:30 PM the official inauguration of the theater will take place, while the show will start at 8:00 PM. The mayor has stated that this was a pending task by all the parties of the municipality and, therefore, "represents a significant moment for the city".

"We wanted this reopening to have a Vélez soul"

“Recovering this theater is to give Vélez-Málaga a space loaded with history, memories, and talent. For decades it has been the stage for countless cultural moments and today it reopens its doors to continue being a meeting point for art and culture,” he pointed out.

Lupiáñez also emphasized that the opening show has been designed with a "distinct local character". “We wanted this reopening to have a Vélez soul, to have our own artists star in this very special night, remembering the essence of the theater and everything it has meant for our city,” a sentiment also echoed by Nacho Herrera, the young man from Vélez who designed the corporate image for the Lope de Vega Theater in Vélez-Málaga.

For his part, Conde explained that the gala will be an emotional journey through the history of the theater. “We wanted to build a show that recalls what the Lope de Vega has been over time, a journey through its memory and essence, in which artists from our land participate, representing very well the cultural richness that Vélez-Málaga has,” he highlighted.

The gala will feature the participation of the Vélez-Málaga Municipal Music Band, as well as various artists and groups from the municipality such as Coros y Danzas de Vélez-Málaga, Miguel Ángel Fernández, Cristina Gallego, Marta Sango, the Coro Romero Peña Axarquía, the Antonio Guerra Company, Séfora and Luli, Luisa Chicano, Cindindi, and Fernando Gil, who will shape a show that combines music, performance, and various scenic disciplines.
