Vélez and Torre del Mar will celebrate Pedal Day with exclusive bicycle raffles

Cycling enthusiasts in Vélez have an appointment on March 22nd for a new edition of the Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar Pedal Day. According to the city council, this is a "well-established" event in the sports calendar. Registered participants will receive a sports backpack and a scratch card with various prizes redeemable at the finish area, in addition to a bicycle raffle exclusive to registered participants.

For two years, the Pedal Day could not be celebrated in Vélez due to adverse weather conditions. Therefore, Vélez-Málaga will once again witness, as Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez has remarked, "one of the most popular and beloved recreational-sports days by both residents and visitors".

The sports event will have a similar format to the last scheduled edition, preserving its essence as a non-competitive event aimed at "promoting physical activity, family togetherness, and healthy leisure". One of the highlights mentioned by the municipal government will be the development of a "dual start", featuring participants competing from the Vélez Andalucía promenade and runners starting at the Poniente seafront in Torre del Mar.

“The goal is for us all to enjoy a day dedicated to cycling and sports, so that this great celebration culminates in a common endpoint, where all participants converge,” concluded the mayor. The parking lots of the El Ingenio Shopping Center, a regular collaborator of the event, will set up the finish line.

Registrations can be made from March 3rd to 20th

In this regard, the Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia, highlighted that “Pedal Day is much more than a cycling tour: it turns our streets into a real bicycle festival for families and neighbors”. Atencia added that events of this type "promote healthy habits, strengthen community ties, and allow for active enjoyment of our public spaces".

Regarding the distribution of starts, there will be a total of four different starts. At 11:30 AM, the adult turn begins at both locations, while from 12:00 PM onwards, it will be the turn of the younger ones, who will have their particular start at Las Carmelitas square and the Poniente promenade in Torre del Mar. The registrations are free and can now be made from March 3rd to 20th, and can be submitted at the Casa del Deporte and at the indoor pools of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar. No registrations will be taken on the day of the event.

For his part, Manuel Gutiérrez, the Councilor for Sports, recalled that this event returns "with more enthusiasm than ever" after two years without being held. "Pedal Day is part of our sports identity and is a day marked in red by many families in the municipality,” he added. He also reminded everyone of the mandatory use of helmets for all participants.

Furthermore, the Councilor for Sports emphasized the role played by the El Ingenio Shopping Center, “a key role as a collaborating entity, showing great involvement”, to which he added “the invaluable collaboration of the Veleño Cycling Club, whose support and experience are essential for the organization and proper development of a day that mobilizes thousands of participants each year”.

For his part, the manager of the El Ingenio Shopping Center, Leonardo Galdeano Peñuela, highlighted the importance of continuing to collaborate with initiatives that promote sports and community life in the municipality. “For us, it is a pride to be part of such a beloved day as Pedal Day. It is an activity that brings together entire families, promotes healthy habits, and turns our streets into a space for meeting and enjoyment for everyone,” he pointed out. Galdeano also thanked the City Council for their joint initiatives throughout the year, appreciating the “excellent collaboration in place”.
