The Vélez-Málaga City Council, through the Infrastructure area and with the collaboration of the Culture delegation, has addressed a "historic demand" in the La Villa neighborhood, by enhancing the value of the Real Street fountain, now transformed into an ornamental element of Andalusian inspiration. According to the council, the project involved an investment of over 43,000 euros and was carried out by the local company Adriano Construcciones y Contratas, with a design by local architect Fernando Casquero.

The work was completed within four months. The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, as highlighted, has continuously monitored the project to comply with all procedures and to obtain approval from the technical commission of the Special Plan for Protection and Internal Reform (Pepri) of the Historic Center of Vélez-Málaga. "This intervention strengthens the identity and heritage appeal of the neighborhood, adapting the fountain to the historical past of the surroundings and enhancing the area's aesthetics with the iconic backdrop of the Church of Santa María," the mayor detailed.

"After listening to the residents, we decided to transform it into an ornamental element of Andalusian inspiration, restoring its historical essence from the 10th century," he added. Following this, the mayor emphasized that the fountain combines "beauty and functionality, making this area a new visual and cultural reference point for both residents and visitors."

With this, he noted that this action will bring "more life" to the center of Vélez-Málaga. The Councilor for Culture, Alicia Ramírez, highlighted that the result “fits perfectly into the historical context and will allow visitors to understand the life of the municipality centuries ago.”

The Councilor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, explained that the fountain “was a neighborhood demand: the previous one did not provide the necessary values, neither functionally nor aesthetically.” Thanks to coordination with Culture, they have studied “how to recover the historical essence of the neighborhood.” Additionally, the project, as stated, has maintained “the essence of Vélez.”

The construction process and the manufacturing of most of the materials were carried out using local artisanal methods. The fountain is integrated into a landscaped area that is beautified, with coloring, filtration, and automatic pH systems that comply with health regulations, providing a safe, accessible, and visually maintained space.
