The eastern outskirts of Estepona will feature a new green space of 20,000 square meters in the La Boladilla sector, equipped with a sports track, playgrounds, and plantings with water-saving systems, as announced this Monday by the deputy mayor of the Development, Infrastructure, and Tourism (FIT) area, Ana Velasco.

The councilwoman highlighted that the new facility is being executed by the developer responsible for developing the sector, after obtaining municipal authorizations, and it will be completed in about six months.

Velasco noted that the green area will feature extensive meadows naturalized with Mediterranean-origin shrubs and ground cover species, as well as a total of 300 leafy and ornamental trees, which will join the existing specimens in this environment.

The green space will also include a sports track of 1,000 square meters and an area for health circuits. Additionally, two playgrounds will be created, each close to 1,000 square meters, equipped with inclusive facilities adapted for children with limited mobility, as reported by the City Council in a statement.

The project also includes a series of pedestrian paths, which will be executed in stamped concrete, with lighting and public streetlights, and an automatic irrigation network controlled remotely.

Plantings with water consumption savings

Regarding the plantings to be carried out, it has been highlighted that as an environmental reinforcement measure, polymers will be incorporated into the soil, a material particularly absorbent of moisture that allows saving up to 50% in water consumption.

This space adds to others that have been created in the city over the last decade, contributing to Estepona doubling the national average of green area square meters per inhabitant. Among the green spaces promoted in the outskirts, notable are one of 20,000 square meters in the Bel-Air area, another of 10,000 square meters next to La Resinera and Las Joyas, the 13,000 square meters green meadow executed at the entrance to Cancelada, the 26,000 square meters in the north of Cancelada, where a 7-a-side football field and a recreation area with health circuits are located, or the 5,000 square meters next to the Estepona Hospital.
