The Marbella City Council has initiated administrative procedures for urban development in Arroyo Sequillo, covering an impressive area of 1.5 million square meters. For now, the Local Government Board has approved the declaration of convenience and opportunity for a proposed delimitation in this area of East Marbella, which includes residential, tourist, and hotel uses. The project plans for about 2,000 homes, of which 40 percent will be public housing, as well as 300,000 square meters of general systems for open areas, parks, gardens, and facilities.

"It is a very powerful development, worked on for years, which respects the low density of the area and will provide the city with new infrastructure, open spaces, and public housing," said the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz. The step taken yesterday by the City Council with the declaration of convenience and opportunity, which would be its consideration as a public interest project, marks the starting point to make this urban development of 150 hectares a reality. "The procedure that opens is to carry out an Urban Transformation Action, but as a first point by the government team, it must be agreed upon, the project must be presented, and it must be appropriate," explained the mayor. This procedure will define exactly what this new urban development will entail, including the lands that will be dedicated to hotel use.

139 homes in San Pedro

Muñoz has highlighted the use of the responsible declaration for minor works, which was also reported in the Local Government Board, "a system that allows work to begin within 15 days and has been a clear boost for families and small businesses." Just in the month of January, this type of license has generated works in Marbella valued at 6 million euros, which reflects "a spectacular increase in economic activity linked to renovations and improvements in homes and establishments," emphasized the mayor.

Furthermore, she indicated that a license for single-family homes, valued at 3.5 million euros, and another for 139 homes in San Pedro Alcántara, "in the area where the urbanization project is already being executed, on the Ronda road," which "will start immediately" and has a budget of 32 million euros.
