We bring you an exhibition as powerful as it is uncomfortable, in the sense that it aims to show us aspects of ourselves that we may find hard to recognize and admit. What attracts and repulses us also defines us. This exhibition will shake you and at the same time provoke an uncontrollable delight, and we believe that it is precisely in this capacity to navigate through all the nooks and crannies of sensitivity and the human condition that the definition of art with a capital A lies. So, we think everything has been said, you can't miss it.

Almost a year after his last solo exhibition in Málaga, multidisciplinary artist Marcos Sevilla arrives at the Moments Festival, presenting a new project where irony and mockery reappear as a genesis of his art. The author proposes a critical reflection on how contemporary visual culture manufactures and consumes grotesque subjects, not limiting itself to television figures but extending to a whole media and cybernetic imaginary that turns certain bodies into pure entertainment. Carnivalesque subjects are degraded not by what they do, but by how they are read and exposed by the symbolic apparatus that produces them. The monstrous is not in them, it is in the machinery that places them as deplorable, a culture that needs to create figures of excess to reaffirm, by contrast, what it considers acceptable. Rejection is learned, the gaze is educated. Therefore, these saturated, ridiculed, or scandalous identities speak not so much of themselves as of those who observe them.

From the margins, especially from the queer perspective, a paradoxical identification emerges with these overflowing bodies, not because of a literal affinity as such, but because they embody what the norm fears and distances, the failure of composure, inadequacy, provocation, or rejection, among many other qualifiers. As distorted mirrors, these subjects allow one to see oneself in the otherness, in discomfort, in what escapes the hegemonic narrative. In this way, through pictorial and sculptural language, a grotesque archive is constructed, a critical gallery of what we consume with disdain and desire, not to mock what is presented per se, but to ask: why do we keep looking?

Marcos Sevilla (Málaga, 2000) is a visual artist whose work reflects on the human figure. He considers it a symbolic and performative construction, deeply influenced by the dominant logics of power. His practice is interdisciplinary, encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performative actions. It is always articulated around the body as his only "playground." A graduate in Fine Arts with a Master's in Interdisciplinary Art Production from the University of Málaga, Sevilla focuses his research on the representation of the subject as a cultural artifice. For him, it is a projection surface where social, gender, and class stereotypes are embodied, making visible repetitive and deeply political collective narratives.

Among his recent exhibitions, his last solo, "La cortina de Antonio" (2024), presented at the Sala Chema Cobo of the University of Málaga, stands out. This multidisciplinary project explored, in a carnivalesque and self-referential key, identity projections and the social mask.
