The College of Physicians of Malaga values the health center planned in Mijas as

The Mijas City Council showed the Medical Association of Malaga this Friday the basic features of the high-resolution health center, which has an allocation of 625,000 euros in this year's budget to fund the construction study, the medical institution considering the initiative as “coherent” and “appropriate” given the town's population, geographical location, and health needs, according to the Council.

Thus, the City Council highlighted in a statement that the planned health center “will improve care for Mijas residents with an integrated system of primary care, specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, and treatments all in one place and unit of action.”

For this purpose, the mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, met with the president of the Medical Association, Pedro J. Navarro, noting that thanks to this center “Mijas residents will be able to resolve many of their medical issues in a single day, efficiently, with the latest medical technologies.”

She added that it coordinates with other public services in the town, such as health centers and the CARE de Las Lagunas, as well as with Mijas's reference hospital, Costa del Sol.

As she recalled, the center will feature specialties such as cardiology, pulmonology, pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, dermatology, speech therapy, major outpatient surgery, and minor outpatient surgery, among others, and will also have midwives and 24-hour emergency services every day.

The City Council stated that with this infrastructure, Mijas residents will be able to receive complete health care, ensuring that treatments will be faster and discharge processes can also be shortened, since access to diagnostics and treatments occurs in a single center on the same day. This alternative to hospitalization also facilitates patient comfort, it added.

The medical institution has valued this initiative as “coherent” and “appropriate” for the town's situation in terms of population, geographical location, and health needs, the Council pointed out.

For his part, Navarro expressed his support for the construction of the High-Resolution Process Center promoted by the Mijas City Council, because “it will provide a necessary reinforcement at the health level in the municipality.”

Navarro insisted that the project must be equipped with sufficient staff and medical specialties to meet the needs of the population of this coastal town, which experiences a high increase in population during the summer season.

He also stated that “it will allow the resolution of most pathologies without the patient having to travel to other centers located in different municipalities.” The meeting also included the participation of Mijas's first deputy mayor, Juan Carlos Cuevas, and Andrés Fontalba, an executive at the Medical Association.

A plot of 12,365 square meters in Las Lagunas

The budgets for 2026 include an allocation of 625,000 euros that will finance the construction study of the center, which will be built on a plot located in Las Lagunas, surrounded by Benajarafe, Algatocín, Antonio García Moreno streets and Comares Avenue, between La Vega Institute and Miramar Park. The building area is 12,365 square meters and is municipally owned.

Mata highlighted the importance of the political decision by the government team to definitively promote this high-resolution medical center, “after more than 20 years of inaction since it was first announced the intention to expand the health facilities in Mijas by the then president of the Junta, Manuel Chaves.”
