The Great Park of Mijas will open for the Constitution holiday and at Christmas
The City Council will fully open the recreational area and will ban the entry of motorized vehicles such as scooters. The Great Park of Mijas begins its load, capacity, and security tests this weekend.
The Great Park of Mijas will open its doors to visitors during the Constitution holiday, the weekend of the 13th and 14th, and during the Christmas holidays from December 20th to January 6th, dates on which residents will be able to fully enjoy the facilities, and during which the entry of motorized vehicles such as scooters will be prohibited, as reported by the City Council this Thursday.
The City Council continues with the gradual opening of this recreational space, since the access, capacity, and safety trials began in November with a tennis tournament, followed by a national parkour championship, with part of the facilities closed.
Thus, starting this weekend, on the occasion of the Constitution holiday, the Great Park of Mijas will begin to open in its entirety, from 09:00 to 19:00 hours on all these days, as well as on the weekend of December 13th to 14th and during the Christmas holidays.
In this way, the City Council has highlighted in a statement that access will be available through both entrances, namely the main one, from the area of Venta La Morena towards the La Alberquilla crossroads; and the secondary one, via the Cerro del Águila road, near the San Cayetano cemetery. Each has an adjoining parking area.
The councilor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez, has announced that visitors will be able to explore all areas of the Great Park, unlike the last openings, which were partial to test accesses, capacities, and security. Therefore, all children's playgrounds will be open, as well as sports areas and the canine area.
Motorized vehicles prohibited
On the other hand, Gómez has informed that the access and presence of motorized vehicles such as electric scooters and motorcycles will be prohibited, which must be parked outside the facility. Private security will be coordinated with the Local Police of Mijas to enhance surveillance and protection of users.
The Great Park of Mijas, with 270,000 square meters of surface area, is the largest urban facility of its kind in Andalusia.
