The Malaga Gastronomic Academy, the oldest institution of its kind in Spain, will celebrate its traditional Annual Gala on January 11, 2025 at the Gran Hotel Miramar in Malaga. During the event, awards for the year 2024 will be presented, recognizing the best restaurants, chefs, and professionals in the province.

The ceremony, led by the president of the academy, Manolo Tornay, will be attended by authorities, academics, and personalities linked to the gastronomic world. Tornay has highlighted the difficulty of choosing the winners due to the excellent level of the sector, which positions Malaga as a national and international gastronomic reference.

MALAGA GASTRONOMIC ACADEMY AWARDS

Here are the 2024 awardees

  • José Luis Barrionuevo Award for Best Restaurant: Ta-Kumi Marbella, led by Álvaro Arbeloa and Toshio Tsutsui, recognized as one of the best Japanese restaurants in Andalusia and Spain.

  • Paul Schiff Award for Best Chef: Cristina Cánovas and Diego Aguilar, heads of the kitchen at Palodú restaurant in Malaga city, known for their dual approach.

  • Santiago Domínguez Award for Best Traditional Cuisine Restaurant: Asador El Puerto, in Caleta de Vélez, for its commitment to grilled meats and traditional stews made with care.

  • Enrique Mapelli Award for National Critique and Dissemination: Pedro Luis Gómez, a journalist and prominent figure in gastronomic dissemination.

  • Antonio Espinosa Award for a Lifetime Dedicated to Tourism and Gastronomy: Jacinto and José Rojas, owners of Marisquerías Jacinto and El Cateto, benchmarks in the restaurant sector.

  • Antonio García del Valle Award for Best Beach Bar: Las Palmeras, located in Pedregalejo, an emblematic place to enjoy fish, seafood, and spoon dishes.

  • Conde Rudi Award for Best Dining Room: Ángel González, sommelier at the Marbella Club, recognized among the best in Spain and part of the Top 100 Sommeliers.

  • Sabor a Málaga Award for Best Product or Producer: Finca La Torre, for its extra virgin olive oil produced in Bobadilla, with prestigious international awards.

Since its foundation in 1977, the Malaga Gastronomic Academy has worked for the promotion and recognition of Malaga's gastronomy. Each year, they not only award the best in the sector but also integrate new personalities into their board of academics to reinforce their commitment to local gastronomy.

The event is supported by Costa del Sol Tourism, Victoria Beers, Sabor a Málaga, and the Malaga Provincial Council, among other collaborators. These awards reaffirm the role of gastronomy as a cultural, tourist, and economic engine in the province.
