Virgen del Rosario Procession in El Palo This Saturday: Full Route and Times
The patron saint and protector of El Palo will leave Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday 10 October. The procession will spend approximately five and a half hours in the neighbourhood, including a ceremony at the cemetery and the unveiling of a mosaic on Calle Aljofaina.
El Palo’s Patron Saint Returns to the Streets
The Málaga neighbourhood of El Palo will celebrate one of its most important religious events on Saturday 10 October 2026: the annual glory procession of Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
The image will leave Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church at 5:30 p.m. and travel through numerous streets before returning at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The procession follows the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on Wednesday 7 October and concludes the main celebrations organised in honour of the neighbourhood’s patron saint.
Procession Times
The procession is due to begin at 5:30 p.m. from Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church on Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano.
Its return is expected at approximately 11:00 p.m., although the final time may change depending on the pace of the procession, scheduled stops and the number of people attending.
The complete route is expected to take around five and a half hours.
Full Route Through El Palo
The planned itinerary is:
Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church, Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano, Avenida de la Estación, Ortega Munilla, Alonso Carrillo de Albornoz, Miguel Moya, Calle Mar, Practicante Fernández Alcolea, Padre Lerchundi, Avenida Salvador Allende, Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Pintor Dámaso Ruano, Practicante Fernández Alcolea, Padre Lerchundi, Jurado de Parra, Carlos Frontaura, Pérez Zúñiga, Aljofaina, Antofagasta, Padre Arnáiz, Plaza del Arroyo, Fuente de Leganitos, Plaza del Arroyo, Montiel, Calle Real, Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano and Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church.
The procession will pass through both major avenues and some of the neighbourhood’s narrower traditional streets.
Ceremony at El Palo Cemetery
One of the principal stops will take place in Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, beside San Juan de El Palo Cemetery.
The brotherhood will hold a ceremony remembering deceased residents of the neighbourhood.
This moment reflects the historic relationship between the patron saint and generations of families who have preserved the tradition.
New Mosaic on Calle Aljofaina
Calle Aljofaina will host one of the main new features of the 2026 procession.
A mosaic dedicated to Nuestra Señora del Rosario will be unveiled as the image passes through the street.
Known locally as Cuesta del Rosario, this steep and narrow road is traditionally one of the most popular and atmospheric sections of the route.
Visitors wishing to watch from this point should arrive early and avoid blocking the space required by the procession.
Music by the Maestro Eloy García Band
The image will be accompanied by the Maestro Eloy García Music Band from Málaga’s Expiración brotherhood.
The musicians will perform processional marches throughout the route, including the most traditional sections of the neighbourhood.
Where to Watch the Procession
The departure from Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church will attract one of the largest crowds.
Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Rosario offers an opportunity to witness the cemetery ceremony, while Calle Aljofaina will be a particularly important location because of the new mosaic and the traditional climb.
Plaza del Arroyo, Calle Real and the final section of Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano provide alternatives for watching the patron saint return during the evening.
Visitors should keep doorways clear and follow instructions from organisers and local security services.
Traffic Restrictions
Temporary traffic restrictions will be introduced along the route as the procession moves through El Palo.
Drivers should avoid the streets included in the itinerary during Saturday afternoon and evening. Bus routes and stops may also be temporarily altered.
Public transport is likely to be the most convenient way to reach the neighbourhood, although passengers should check for service updates before travelling.
A Tradition Rooted in El Palo’s History
Nuestra Señora del Rosario is recognised as the patron saint and protector of El Palo.
The image was already venerated in the former chapel that preceded Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church and was later placed in the main altarpiece of the new parish building.
The October procession has long been connected with the neighbourhood’s traditional celebrations. Although the current brotherhood was reorganised in 1995, devotion to the image dates back much further.
Thanksgiving Mass on 25 October
The programme honouring El Palo’s patron saint will conclude later in the month.
A thanksgiving Mass will take place at Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Church at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday 25 October.
