Málaga province offers numerous options for a getaway surrounded by mountains, whitewashed villages and natural landscapes. Data published by the AlojamientosRurales.es platform includes 373 rural houses and other countryside properties across the province.

The median starting price is €25 per person per night, five euros below the €30 figure recorded across all the accommodation listed on the platform.

This amount provides an initial reference rather than a fixed rate. Final prices depend on the dates, size of the property, number of guests, length of stay and facilities included.

Ronda, Cómpeta and Vélez-Málaga Have the Widest Selection

Rural accommodation is not distributed evenly across the province. Ronda, Cómpeta and Vélez-Málaga have the largest number of listed properties among the locations analysed.

Ronda combines countryside accommodation with opportunities to explore the Serranía, visit white villages and follow routes through natural areas. It also provides a useful base for trips to places such as Setenil de las Bodegas, Grazalema and the Genal Valley.

Cómpeta is one of the main gateways to the inland Axarquía and the Tejeda and Almijara mountains. Its rural properties provide a mountain setting while remaining within reach of the coast.

Vélez-Málaga offers another combination of countryside and coastline. Visitors can explore Axarquía villages, travel to Torre del Mar or discover routes connected with local wine, raisins and traditional food.

Swimming Pools for Summer and Fireplaces for Winter

One of the defining features of rural accommodation in Málaga is its suitability for different seasons. Some 76% of the properties analysed have a swimming pool, a particularly popular facility during the warmer months.

Fireplaces are available in 79% of the houses. They make the accommodation itself an important part of an autumn or winter break, especially when temperatures fall in the province’s mountain areas.

Outdoor spaces, barbecues, terraces, gardens and countryside views are also common. Facilities vary between properties and should always be checked before booking.

Almost Half Welcome Pets

A significant proportion of Málaga’s rural properties allow guests to travel with animals. Approximately half of the houses analysed are pet-friendly.

Individual rules may nevertheless apply, including limits on size or number, additional charges and specific conditions. Guests should inform the owner before booking and check whether the grounds are enclosed or other animals live on the property.

How Much Does a Rural House Cost?

The figure of €25 per person per night is the median of the advertised starting prices. A median represents the central value and prevents a small number of particularly expensive or very large properties from distorting the result.

It does not mean that every house can be booked at this price. Rates generally rise during public holidays, long weekends, summer and other periods of high demand.

Many properties are also rented in their entirety. In these cases, the price per guest depends on how many people share the house. A property may therefore offer better value to a group than to a couple, even when its total rental price is higher.

Two-Night Breaks for Groups of Five

The typical property included in the study has capacity for around ten guests. The most common enquiries, however, are for groups of approximately five people planning a two-night stay.

This profile reflects the traditional Friday-to-Sunday getaway with friends or relatives. A shared kitchen, living room and outdoor areas also allow guests to spend a significant part of their break at the property.

Across Spain, the platform lists 10,625 rural properties in 3,853 municipalities, with combined capacity for 138,068 guests. Andalusia leads its catalogue with 1,917 properties, representing 18% of the total.

What to Check Before Booking

Guests should check whether the advertised price covers the entire property or is calculated per person. Minimum stays, cancellation policies, deposits and possible charges for pets, cleaning or heating should also be reviewed.

The exact location is another important consideration. Some properties are reached by rural tracks or difficult roads, making a suitable vehicle necessary.
