The Mijas City Council participated in the World Travel Market (WTM) tourism fair, held in London from November 5 to 7, with the aim of attracting the “winter tourist” to combat seasonality and position itself in international markets. They highlighted aspects such as the climate, golf, and the tranquility of the municipality, as reported this Friday by the councilor of the sector, Francisco Jerez.

The councilor emphasized the "positive impact" of the fair for the municipality, underlining the attention generated in international markets such as the Nordic and Canadian, as well as positioning among visitors looking for a welcoming, safe destination with a varied service offering.

Jerez pointed out that “Mijas is taking a further step in its international positioning strategy, focusing on strategic markets that value the climate, tranquility, and high-quality experiences that the municipality has to offer."

"We have taken this opportunity to approach operators with high potential and the interest has been notable,” highlighted the councilor, who noted that “the Nordic and Canadian markets recognize Mijas as the ideal destination for winter tourism."

In this regard, he emphasized the interest of the Nordic market, focused on long-stay programs for the low season, where Mijas positions itself as a winter refuge.

"Mijas attracts a type of visitor who seeks tranquility and good weather for an extended stay, and our offerings align perfectly with these expectations," added the councilor, while highlighting that the profile of the Scandinavian visitor matches "the Council’s focus on consolidating responsible, quality tourism."

Emerging Markets

On the other hand, Jerez highlighted that the Canadian market showed interest in Mijas's potential as a winter golf destination.

Thus, he valued that “with the extensive range of high-quality golf courses and the unbeatable climate of Mijas, we managed to capture the interest of Canadian operators who see our municipality as a perfect golf destination for the cold months.”

Mijas's participation in the WTM has not only allowed capturing the attention of new markets but also reinforced its presence in the British market, establishing the municipality as a benchmark on the Costa del Sol.

"We have strengthened our position in the British market and also explored opportunities to extend Mijas's influence in other European and North American markets," concluded Jerez.
