Virgen del Carmen Celebrations Return to Málaga with Maritime Processions and Coastal Traditions

The streets, beaches and promenades of Málaga will once again fill with flowers, decorated boats and religious devotion for the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors and fishermen.

The main celebration will take place on Thursday, 16 July 2026, although some neighbourhoods and municipalities will extend their programmes over several days or move certain events to the weekend.

The image will travel through the streets of Los Boliches to Plaza Estrella de los Mares, where local fishermen will carry it into the water to bless the coastline.

The celebration in La Carihuela, Torremolinos, is another major event in Málaga province.

The image normally leaves the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and travels through the neighbourhood streets to the promenade and beach.
