Tarón, a Giant Poodle from Torremolinos, World Champion
Torremolinos
17/06/2026 at 14:19h.The black male giant poodle 'Taron', one of the pets of the owners of the popular beach bar Tela Marinera, the former Jesús y Tere in La Carihuela of Torremolinos, Víctor Jérez and Lorena Rodríguez, has won the title of World Winner 2026 at the World Dog Show held in Bologna (Italy), an event that is a benchmark for pet lovers due to its international prestige.
The merit of the award rightfully belongs to Lorena Rodríguez, who is the trainer. "This achievement means a lot to me, not only because of the prestige of the title but because it is the result of many years of work, training, and passion for the breed. At a show of this level, not only beauty is assessed; judges evaluate aspects as important as structure, movements, balance, character, and functionality of the dog. All this is directly related to the health and well-being of future generations," Rodríguez clearly states, reflecting: "I am especially proud of the great results obtained by the Spanish specimens during this world competition. They are a testament to the commitment that exists in our country to responsible breeding, carried out by people who work to preserve the breeds with respect, knowledge, and conscious selection of their breeders."
And as she maintains, "I have always advocated for a family-oriented, loving, and responsible breeding." "My dogs live with me at home as family members, enjoy exercise, sports, daily outings to the countryside, and constant socialization. From the first weeks, they receive early stimulation and positive experiences that help them develop into balanced and secure dogs," she points out.
As the breeder recalls, the Royal Canine Society of Spain sets specific requirements for reproduction and regulates aspects such as the minimum and maximum ages of the breeders and the control and registration of litters. "These rules, along with the guidelines promoted by the International Canine Federation, aim to foster ethical breeding focused on health, character, and functionality of the dogs, and not just their physical appearance," she elaborates, convinced that, in her words, "this title means much more than a victory in a ring, it represents the confirmation that it is possible to breed with respect, prioritizing health, character, and quality of life of our dogs, without ever losing sight of the essence and qualities that make the poodle such an extraordinary breed."
The World Dog Show is considered the most important canine competition in the world. Organized by the International Canine Federation, it gathers each year the best specimens of hundreds of breeds from dozens of countries.
"Participating in a World Show means reaching one of the highest recognitions within international cynophilia. It is not just a beauty exhibition; dogs are evaluated by specialist judges who assess whether each specimen correctly represents the standard of its breed, taking into account aspects such as structure, movement, temperament, and functional characteristics that define each of them," Rodríguez maintains.
A lover of these dogs as evidenced by the fact that, at her home, alongside Taron, 9 months old, there is another female, 9 years old, a male of 6, and the world champion's mother, aged 5.
