Summer is already here, as indicated by the thermometer and the beaches of Málaga, bustling every weekend. Throughout the year, the terraces and beach bars attract both locals and tourists who enjoy the brilliance of the Costa del Sol, especially now when the heat intensifies. The aroma of sardines on the skewer, the sound of the waves just meters from the table, and the arrival of fresh fish from the Malaga fish markets explain why the beach bars are part of the identity of the Costa del Sol. From Rincón de la Victoria to Marbella, passing through Vélez-Málaga, Fuengirola, and the capital of Málaga, these award-winning beach bars showcase the gastronomic richness of a coastline where fish, seafood, rice dishes, and skewers remain the undisputed protagonists.

Marina Playa

Located on Torre de Benagalbón beach, in the town of Rincón de la Victoria, Marina Playa has established itself as one of the gastronomic benchmarks of the eastern Malaga coast. Its menu revolves around a careful selection of fish and seafood from chosen suppliers, a commitment reflected in a menu where the product plays a central role.

Among its specialties are traditional dishes such as anchovies in vinegar, gazpacho, porra antequerana, Russian salad, coquinas, clams, and prawns. This is complemented by a wide variety of fried dishes made with fresh fish, from anchovies and red mullets to squids, small horse mackerels, or octopus.

Another highlight at Marina Playa is its offering of large fish, sold by weight, including species such as sea bass, snapper, turbot, voraz, or red mullet. The rice dishes, both paella and broth-based, also play a significant role in the menu.

It was already the best skewer in 2022, recognized as the best beach bar by the Malaga Gastronomic Academy, and in 2026 it received the award for Best Traditional Gazpachuelo during the Salón Gourmets de Madrid, reinforcing its position within Malaga's gastronomy.

El Saladero

In the heart of Caleta de Vélez, by the sea and very close to one of the most important fishing ports in the province, is El Saladero. This historic beach bar opened its doors in 1965 in the space that once occupied the port's bar, becoming over the decades one of the most well-known establishments in the Axarquía.

The proximity to the fishing activity greatly influences its identity. The product from the fish market forms the basis of a gastronomic proposal focused on fresh fish and seafood, with special attention to grilled and skewered preparations.

Its menu also includes meats, rice dishes, and paellas, although the focus remains on the species caught in nearby waters. The ability to taste almost any fish prepared on the skewer has become one of its hallmarks.

The location, directly on Caleta de Vélez beach, also helps to strengthen the link between local gastronomy and the maritime tradition that characterizes this area of the Malaga coast.

Oasis

The story of Chiringuito Oasis began in 1980 thanks to the initiative of the González Salguero family, who decided to open this establishment on the promenade of Fuengirola. Since then, the business has evolved while maintaining family management that has adapted to modern times.

Currently, the project is driven by Alfonso González, who decided to leave his career as a telecommunications engineer to join the family business. Under this new stage, Oasis has developed a model that combines the traditional essence of the beach bar with a more contemporary gastronomic proposal.

The quality of the product and the care in the preparations are two of the most highlighted aspects of the establishment. Its fried dishes, grilling work, skewers, and anchovies in vinegar are among the most representative preparations of a cuisine that seeks to maintain the prominence of fresh fish and sea products.

This is complemented by special attention to service and a carefully staged presentation that has contributed to making Oasis one of the recognized names in the coastal restoration of Fuengirola.

Las Palmeras

Few stories better represent the evolution of Malaga's maritime gastronomy than that of Las Palmeras. This restaurant opened its doors in 1980 on the promenade of Pedregalejo, driven by María and Bernardo along with their children, after a long career linked to the food trade in Malaga.

More than four decades later, the business remains tied to the same family and maintains a firm commitment to quality products. Its menu gathers some of the most representative specialties of local maritime cuisine, from fine shells, coquinas, and clams to Malaga white shrimp, quisquillas, or red mullets from La Caleta.

Among its dishes also stand out preparations such as monkfish soup or different varieties of rice. However, one of its greatest recognitions came thanks to the sardine skewer, which won the award for Best Skewer in Spain during the 2020/21 season.

The skewer technique is one of the great strengths of the establishment, which is equally applied to other products like wild sea bream, voraces, urtas, squids, or octopus legs. In 2024, the Malaga Gastronomic Academy also awarded it the Antonio García del Valle Prize for the Best Beach Bar.

La Milla

In Marbella, facing the Mediterranean, La Milla represents a different vision of the traditional beach bar concept. Opened in 2015, this project combines the characteristic maritime cuisine of the Costa del Sol with a contemporary gastronomic proposal based on rigorous product selection.

Fish from Andalusian fish markets occupy a central place in a menu that includes fried dishes, skewers, rice dishes, and salads alongside more innovative preparations. The kitchen is led by Luis Menor, chef and owner whose professional career includes his time at the Hotel Byblos in Mijas and later at the Hotel Los Monteros.

The gastronomic philosophy of La Milla is based on respect for the product and adaptation to the seasonality of the ingredients. Each day incorporates suggestions made with the best raw materials available in the market.

In addition to the culinary offer, the restaurant stands out for a wide selection of national and international references, including wines, champagnes, fortified wines, sweet wines, and cocktails. Its facilities are also designed to host celebrations and events of various formats. They have a Sol Repsol.
