Chef José Carlos García leaves Muelle Uno after 15 years to return to his roots: he will open at Café de París in La Malagueta

Chef José Carlos García is closing one chapter at Muelle Uno to return to his roots. The Michelin-starred restaurant that bears his name will soon shut its doors to embark on a new journey at the family restaurant where his success began, Café de París, just a few meters from its current location. The chef from Málaga will maintain all the essence that has characterized José Carlos García over the past 15 years, but now in a much more intimate, familiar, and close setting.

Café de París was, for years, the only Michelin Star in Málaga city, and it's amazing how things have changed gastronomically in the city. A very young José Carlos García first received the Michelin Star in 2002 at this family venue, which he maintained until 2011, just before moving to Muelle Uno. There, after a name change and a new project, he soon regained the Michelin Star which he has held until today.

The chapter at Muelle Uno closes for José Carlos García, with no other motivation than to return to his origins, to where everything started, to home, to a place full of memories with a clear and strong emotional charge. Café de París, located at Vélez Málaga Street (8), in the La Malagueta neighborhood, will reopen its doors, now under the name José Carlos García, maintaining his project, style, and professionalism that he demonstrated at Muelle Uno, but in a location that will allow him to be closer to his patrons, with fewer tables but more intimacy.

The end of the era at Muelle Uno will allow José Carlos García to look back. During the months of June, July, and August, the chef from Málaga has prepared a special menu to honor his last 15 years at the Plaza de la Capilla in the Port of Málaga. Thus, his diners will be able to enjoy a journey through his entire career, filled with sea and land, top-quality products, and the technique that has marked his entire career.

A Menu, A Story

"This menu is a way to value everything we have lived here. We didn't want it to be just a closure, but an experience that truly represents these 15 years. An evolution that has gone hand in hand with the city of Málaga itself, our clients, and our trusted suppliers. There are dishes that are part of our history and will not be repeated. This makes this moment even more special," explains José Carlos García about this select menu.

Each dish in this new menu is a memory, a tribute to his career and gastronomic journey. "Each dish represents a key moment in the chef's trajectory, reinterpreted from the present but true to its essence," highlight from the restaurant, where they promise that it "values seasonal and local products, as well as the work of artisan producers who have accompanied the chef over the years."

Among the dishes that will be available are icons within his gastronomic imagination, such as the Sunflower Seed Polvorón (2011) or the Savory Liver Parfait (2012), but also more current dishes like his Scallop and Beetroot Tartlet (2024) or the Squid Tagliatelle with Tuna Flakes and Green Apple (2026). You can also find dishes like the Ajoblanco with Mango and Smoked Eel (2017) or the Sea Bass with Gazpachuelo (2015), two dishes that characterize the memory and respect for the tradition and the Malaga recipe book, always from a contemporary perspective.
