Milestone at Malaga Airport: ten million passengers in the first five months

Málaga Airport breaks records and marks a new milestone in its more than one hundred years of history: it has surpassed ten million passengers in the first five months of the year. Aena's data indicates that during this period, 10,455,108 travelers passed through these facilities, a 7.1% increase compared to the same dates in 2025 and a figure never reached in a low season stage. Aena explains that of the 10,436,936 users who traveled on commercial flights between January and May, 1,761,792 were traveling to or from within our borders, representing an increase of 7.5%, and 8,675,144, an increase of 7.1%, were international travelers.

This strong dynamism was also felt on the runways. So far this year, the Costa del Sol Airport has handled 72,350 landings and takeoffs, a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

It is worth remembering that the first five months of 2025 saw a 7.7% increase in passengers with the boost of May, in which there was an 8.7% increase in travelers totaling 2,584,681 users. However, it fell just short of the new historical figure of ten million passengers, according to Aena.

This past May also set a record with a movement of 2,748,494 passengers, a figure that represents a 6.3% growth in travelers compared to the same month in 2025 and almost double the average growth rate of the Aena network.

The majority of users traveled on commercial flights, totaling 2,746,474. Of these, 411,267 traveled on flights originating from or destined for a Spanish city, that is, a 1.3% increase, while 2,335,207 opted for connections abroad, showing a stronger push with a rise of 7.4%.

In terms of markets with the highest demand in absolute terms, the British market led with 659,628 passengers, significantly ahead of the second key emitter, Germany, with 213,641 travelers, followed by the Dutch, French, and Italian markets.

In May, 18,473 planes landed and took off at the airport's runways, representing an increase of 2.8%. Of these, 14,734 were international connections.

Málaga is the fourth busiest airport in Spain in terms of passengers both in the first five months and in May, in which the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas had the highest number of passengers with 6,007,105, representing a growth of 4.8%. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with 5,509,868, a 6.4% increase; Palma de Mallorca, with 4,009,687 and a 4.9% increase, and Málaga Airport.

In the entire Aena network in Spain, from January to May, there were 124,606,562 travelers, a 3.7% increase over the same period last year. Aena points out that this represents "a growth lower than that of the first five months of 2025 compared to 2024, when the number of passengers grew by 4.7%". They also warn that the traffic at the start of the year "is influenced by an increase in the summer season schedule due to the Middle East conflict and by the transfer of passengers from the railway mode (after the railway accident last January 18), two specific circumstances and therefore not structural to the traffic behavior."

Regarding the activity of the airports in May, they report that 30.7 million passengers were counted, a 5% increase compared to the same month in 2025.
