Mijas awards the project for the 'El Burrito' park, a space for species preservation

The Mijas Town Hall has awarded the company OLUZ the construction project of the park 'El Burrito', an interpretation center dedicated to the knowledge, protection, and preservation of the Mijas donkey, an iconic species of the municipality. The space will be located on the Vial Sur, next to Camino de las Canteras, on a parcel of 10,226 square meters, with an award budget of 39,782.38 euros and a project execution period of 60 days.

Once the document is completed, the next step will be to put out to tender the works to execute a recreational park on the land, whose rugged topography will facilitate interaction with semi-free donkeys. The project's goals include improving awareness of animal rights and welfare, creating a donkey observatory, enabling shaded trails with trees, and allowing the animals to participate in the management of the forest mass. The park will also offer the possibility for the donkeys to retire in its facilities and will host adult animals for their recovery and subsequent relocation.

Regarding infrastructure, the project includes three large modules for the animals, one for veterinary use and another intended for storage. The stables will have 24 compartments with a capacity for two donkeys each, totaling 48 spaces. Each compartment will have water, a light point, and rings on the walls to facilitate maintenance work. The rooms will be semi-buried and integrated into the landscape, taking advantage of the natural shape of the terrain.

The main axis of the park will be a principal path five meters wide from which accesses to the stables will branch off, designed to allow the transit of maintenance vehicles. This road will divide the space into two areas: one for the modules and another with natural trails, fenced meadows, a riding area, and a waste management esplanade. The plot already has all the necessary urban services, including a potable water network, electrical supply, and wastewater sanitation.
