All programming at the Soho Theatre in Malaga in May: featuring magic, flamenco, and a musical comedy: dates and tickets

May lands at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank with an ambitious and diverse program that once again positions the space driven by Antonio Banderas as one of the major cultural epicenters in Andalusia. Following the recent spotlight on contemporary dance, the Malaga theater opens a new chapter where magic, flamenco, text theater, and musicals coexist in a lineup designed to attract a very diverse audience.

Mag Lari - Strafalari

The beginning of the month will be marked by the return of one of the most recognized illusionists in the national scene. Mag Lari presents Strafalari from the 1st to the 3rd of May, a show that synthesizes three decades of career on stage. With performances spread across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the show combines humor, audience participation, and a selection of the best acts of his career. The title itself, Strafalari, defines the creative universe of the artist: extravagant, surprising, and deeply connected with the audience. A proposal designed for all audiences that turns magic into a complete scenic experience.

Flamenco at the Soho: Argentina

The follow-up will arrive on Friday, May 8th, with one of the most awaited events for lovers of deep-rooted art. The singer Argentina will take the stage with Flamenco por Cantaora, an emotional journey through the fundamental styles of flamenco. From soleá to bulerías, through seguiriyas or alegrías, the show claims the essence of a genre declared universal. The artist from Huelva, considered by critics as one of the great contemporary voices, offers a live performance that balances tradition and renewal, with a sober yet intense staging.

Flamenco at the Soho: Cía. Flamenca La Lupi

A day later, on Saturday, May 9th, the spotlight will fall on flamenco dance with the company of La Lupi. Her scenic proposal is presented as an introspective and emotional journey that explores new territories within flamenco. With over four decades of career, the dancer from Malaga proposes a show that goes beyond choreography to delve into a nearly narrative language, where each movement reflects moods, tensions, and personal searches. A work that connects with the audience on a visceral level.

Memories of Hadrian

The text theater will take over in mid-May with one of the great literary adaptations of the season. On the 15th and 16th of May, Lluís Homar stars in Memories of Hadrian, based on the famous novel by Marguerite Yourcenar. Under the direction of Beatriz Jaén, the play constructs an intimate portrait of the Roman emperor Hadrian, combining historical narrative with a deep reflection on power, identity, and the passage of time. A production noted for its interpretative density and meticulous dramaturgy.

Tootsie, the musical comedy

The grand finale, and one of the highlights of the season, will arrive from May 21st with Tootsie, the musical comedy, which will run until June 7th. Based on the iconic 1982 film starring Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange, the show adapts the story into a musical format with a contemporary and dynamic staging. The plot follows Michael Dorsey, an actor in crisis who, in a desperate turn, transforms into Dorothy Michaels to get a job, triggering a series of situations filled with humor, social criticism, and romantic entanglements.
