Mijas progresses in the implementation of its surveillance camera network

Mijas is preparing to host a new surveillance camera network that the municipality will implement with the goals of improving public safety and traffic control. There will be up to 154 video cameras at a total of 85 locations in the municipality considered "key locations"; an operation in which the municipal government will invest 2.64 million euros. The amount includes the supply, installation, commissioning of the system, and maintenance for four years.

Up to six companies are competing to deploy the 154 devices that will make up Mijas' surveillance camera network, with 106 dedicated to traffic control and 48 to public safety. The companies include the local firm Calidad 8x8 Seguridad, the Fuengirola-based Aplicaciones Tecnológicas Juma, the Malaga-based Imesapi, the Jaén-based Innovaciones Tecnológicas del Sur, and the Madrid-based Tecnologías Viales Aplicadas Teva and Estacionamiento y Servicios.

Although the contracting process started in January, it is still in an initial phase, after the technical specification sheet has been rectified on two occasions. The contracting board is currently in the phase of evaluating the technical offers.

Thus, it is certain that the devices will not be fully deployed until 2027, considering that the awarded company has a period of nine months from the formalization of the contract to complete the launch of the network and hand it over to the Mijas City Council.
