The Mijas City Council has approved today to expedite investments in the municipality amounting to over 33 million euros, which will be used to implement infrastructure ... related to roads, sports, facilities, cleaning and supply, mainly, as well as drafting plans for the remodeling and pedestrianization of streets and a firm commitment to the municipal parking plan.

These projects are included in a budget amendment approved today in the plenary session for the month of April with votes in favor from the government team. Among the included projects are the drafting and tendering of the construction of the new parking lot in Mijas Pueblo, the installation of underground containers throughout the municipality, the tendering for the remodeling of La Butibamba park, or the completion of the pending sections of the Coastal Path to Fuengirola.

Additionally, the Mijas City Council has provided for actions such as the project to duplicate the Camino de Coín between the Víctimas del Terrorismo roundabout and the Camino de Campanales; and the access bridges to the Gran Parque, which receive a budget of 800,000 euros. The drafting of the project for the change of grass, storage, and changing rooms at the adjacent Las Lagunas soccer field is also included.

Parking Plan

The approved budget amendment represents, according to the City Council, "a decisive boost" for the municipal parking plan, as it adds to the Los Santos parking lot, which will be inaugurated "shortly," and the Mijas Pueblo parking lot – with a budget of 6.5 million euros –, it joins those of Parque Andalucía (project and tendering of works, with 250,000 euros); Las Cañadas, La Candelaria, El Juncal, or the one at La Cala Boulevard.

The investment plan includes the sealing of the landfill, comprehensive street remodeling in La Cala and Mijas Pueblo, and actions in the scattered areas

Specifically in La Cala, the Mijas City Council is going to undertake several comprehensive street remodelings, whose projects will be financed with today's amendment (Segovia, Cómpeta, Butiplaya, Júzcar, Cártama, Germany, or Benarrabá). Also, 350,000 euros are allocated to the works of sealing the municipal landfill.

Street works will also be carried out in Mijas Pueblo (Juan García Alarcón, Callejón de los Gitanos, Cueva del Agua), where 150,000 euros will be allocated to the project for the remodeling of the access to the Puerto hermitage and its rehabilitation. In the scattered areas, 500,000 euros are allocated to the repairs of public roads, and the Alquería collector and the project for the new road connection between the Manzanilla sector and the A-7053 road are also promoted.

Asphalting of Urbanizations

The Mijas City Council allocates in this budget amendment a total of 2.5 million euros for the asphalting of public roads; and promotes the remodeling of the drinking water supply networks in El Coto (150,000 euros) and Doña Pilar (141,000 euros). Additionally, the project for the remodeling of the roundabout on the access road to the racecourse is contemplated (150,000 euros).

Specifically, as explained by the government team spokesperson, Mario Bravo, the budget amendment includes both new projects and multi-year ones whose economic obligations must be faced, and others whose financing is now completed.

The City Council establishes direct debit of monthly receipts for the payment of annual parking passes

Furthermore, the municipal plenary has approved a modification of the agreement on the establishment of public prices for the provision of vehicle parking services in municipal parking lots, so that direct debit of monthly receipts is established for the payment of annual parking passes.

Thus, the price to be paid will be the same as previously charged, that is, 600 euros per annual pass, but spread over twelve direct debit receipts of 60 euros each. This eliminates the surcharges derived from the installment when users requested it because they could not or did not want to pay the 600 euros in one go at the beginning of each year.
