Ana Mata, unanimously elected new president of the PP in Mijas

Ana Mata, current mayor of Mijas, was elected this Saturday as the new president of the PP of the municipality by unanimous decision. This marks a new chapter in the political trajectory of the city, about which the new president has stated she is “fully committed to continuing its transformation and consolidating it as the great city it is, the third most important in the province of Málaga.”

The election took place during the IX Local Congress of the Popular Party of Mijas, held at the Ilunion Hacienda de Mijas hotel with more than 300 attendees. This appointment marks the end of the management committee's governance, chaired until now by Félix Romero, and opens a new era “to boost Mijas, and to do so with a strong PP, which has proven to be a guarantee of management in all surrounding municipalities, and that is very confident about itself and what needs to be done.”

The IX Local Congress featured the presence of Elías Bendodo, vice-secretary of Autonomic and Local Politics and Electoral Analysis of the national PP; Patricia Navarro, president of the PP of Málaga; the mayors Natacha Rivas (Algarrobo), Ana Mula (Fuengirola), Margarita del Cid (Torremolinos) and María Paz Fernández (Ronda); the mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara; and the Andalusian parliamentarian Esperanza Oña, among many other provincial and regional leaders who supported Mata during this Saturday's event.

The mayor of Mijas was elected by unanimity in a vote conducted by a show of hands, which was preceded by a round table with the participation of the four aforementioned female mayors.

Daniel Gómez Teruel, new general secretary

Following her election, Mata announced the name of Mario Bravo, current councilor of Economy and Finance of Mijas, as vice president of her executive board in the PP of Mijas. Daniel Gómez Teruel, current councilor of Beaches, Parks and Gardens and Operational Services, is the new general secretary. As vice secretaries, Mata has chosen Silvia Marín, Ángel Herrera, Carmen Márquez, Charo Cara, Juan José Torres, Marco Cortés, Mari Francis Alarcón, and Melisa Ceballos, while Trinidad Bornao has been chosen as treasurer.

Furthermore, Mata has announced that in the coming days she will reveal the positions that the members of her executive board will hold. She described it as a privilege to work for and with the people of Mijas, a task that carries a high demand. Indeed, she explained that Mijas has everything necessary to “break the mold, step outside the box, become a more thriving, richer land, with more employment.”

“We have a territory as large as it is diverse. We are the third most important municipality in the province of Málaga because we are the third most populated... and we are also a constant pole of attraction. That is, people want to live here, they want to make their lives in Mijas,” she stated. However, she noted that Mijas has been held back “by the lack of vision and by the political battle that has prevented development equal to other municipalities.”

But against this backdrop stands the management capability of the Popular Party, exemplified by Juanma Moreno's leadership at the Junta de Andalucía. “The Popular Party is and will be a guarantee of management. Management leads to progress, to economic wealth, to job creation, to the attraction of investments, and to orderly development,” she affirmed.

The mayor has claimed the transformative and driving power of the Popular Party in the municipalities it governs. “Look around, look at Marbella, Torremolinos, Málaga, Fuengirola... the work of the PP has significantly boosted all the localities it has governed. And that is what we are going to do in Mijas,” she concluded.
