The Málaga Book Fair pays tribute to the centenary of the 'Litoral' magazine in its poster.

Coastal and 'Litoral'. With and without quotes, it refers to Málaga. And this double meaning presides over the poster of the 55th Book Fair ... of Málaga, which visually refers to both the city and the mythical poetic and literary magazine whose centenary is celebrated this year. A corporate image of a very notable edition of this book event that looks out to the shore to remember the maritime condition of the capital, while paying tribute to the revolutionary publication of 'Litoral', founded in 1926 by Emilio Prados and Manuel Altolaguirre, and which was the flagship on which the verses of the Generation of '27 sailed. The poster is signed by Estudio Santa Rita and announces that the book festival will be held between April 30 and May 10 by the sea, on Paseo del Parque.

'Books with a scent of the coast' is the motto of this edition of the Book Fair, a spirit that presides over the maritime-inspired poster. Thus, the dual Mediterranean and poetic nature of Málaga is shared by the magazine 'Litoral' which published the works of Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Luis Cernuda, Jorge Guillén, Dámaso Alonso, Vicente Aleixandre, and José María Hinojosa, who, among others, gave rise to the Generation of '27.

The central character of the poster is a young woman with reddish hair who is inspired by 'Jacinta la pelirroja', the emblematic "poem in poems" that José Moreno Villa published in 'Litoral' in 1929. In addition to her recognizable hair, the body of this Jacinta is made from seashells, shells, and stones from the shore that are held in a delicate balance, just like the words. The protagonist looks into an open book, not only to read but to breathe its aroma, as if the pages contained the salt of the sea and the memory of the coast. Who has never smelled a book?

For her part, the writer from Málaga, Esther García Llovet, will be in charge of welcoming the 55th edition with the inaugural speech. Author of titles such as 'Gordo de feria', 'Sánchez', or 'Spanish Beauty', García Llovet is one of the most unique, coherent, and influential literary voices of our letters, with a style that mixes sharpness, critical gaze, and humor.
