Strong gusts of wind knock down a tree on a road in Mijas village

The Mijas Town Hall continues to work to mitigate the effects of the windstorm that is affecting the municipality and has caused significant damage in various areas of the municipal district. The consequences of the strong gusts that are still blowing today remain evident. This morning, workers from the Parks and Gardens department intervened on the repeater road in Mijas Pueblo to remove a large tree that had fallen on the road, obstructing passage and creating a clear danger for drivers.

According to municipal technicians, just in the last week, there has been a significant loss of vegetation, valued at more than 90,000 euros.

Last Monday, the City Council issued a statement explaining that the Parks and Gardens brigades were on the streets to address the damages caused by the storm. Since then, the teams have worked nonstop to ensure safety and restore normality in the affected areas.

One of the most affected areas has been the Las Cañadas school, where a perimeter wall has fallen damaging 51 climbing plants that decorated it. In the same educational center, a tree has also fallen.

In Mijas Pueblo, there have also been two tree falls in the areas of La Muralla and El Compás. In Los Jarales and the old dog shelter, four other pines have fallen. There have also been damages at the Fuente del Algarrobo, Buenavista, and in the area of the Hippodrome, in addition to the fall of two date palms on Santa Laura street.

Daniel Gómez, the councilor for Parks and Gardens, highlighted the effort of municipal workers: “The municipal workers have been working tirelessly for several days to address any unforeseen situations that may occur. The ground is very wet, which, combined with the instability of the trees and the strong wind, causes them to fall. We are there to eliminate the dangers and obstacles that may arise.”
