EmpoderaLIVE 2026 celebrates its 20th anniversary in Málaga under the theme “20 Years Building Citizen Digital Sovereignty”. The international civic technology event will bring together experts, activists, researchers and representatives of international organisations for two days of discussions on how technology is designed, developed and governed, and the role citizens should play in those decisions.
The 2026 edition will focus on artificial intelligence, digital rights, privacy, open data, robotics, blockchain and citizen participation. It will also serve as a key meeting point for the Citizen Digital Sovereignty Alliance, an open community working to give people a stronger voice in decisions about technology.
International speakers announced for the event include Juliana Rotich, co-founder of Ushahidi and BRCK; Ana García Robles, Director of the United Nations AI Governance Lab for Humanity; Suzy Madigan, founder of The Machine Race; Alicia Combaz from Make.org; Joyce Dogniez from Internet Society; and neuro-rights advocate Guido Girardi.
The programme combines talks, conversations, networking, artistic activities and a Citizen Digital Sovereignty Ideathon, giving participants the opportunity to develop proposals on how citizens can take part in decisions about emerging technologies.
