Estepona's beaches will have new lifeguard towers this summer

This year, the beaches of Estepona will debut 17 towers dedicated to coastal surveillance and rescue services, with construction and supply costing the municipality 110,000 euros, as reported by councilwoman Susana Aragón.

The councilwoman specified that the new towers will replace the lifeguard chairs that have been used until now by the municipality's rescue service, in preparation for the upcoming beach season from June 15 to September 15.

Specifically, Aragón detailed that the new structures will be installed on the beaches of La Rada, El Cristo, El Padrón, El Saladillo, and Arroyo Vaquero, from Calle México to Arroyo Enmedio.

She highlighted that the company selected for the construction and supply of the towers “has improved the initial offer in the tender, reducing the delivery time and the budget by more than 27,000 euros, bringing the contract cost down to 110,000 euros.”

For this purpose, the City Council has contracted “the supply and installation of these towers, which will be 4.7 meters high - 0.7 meters below sand -, and will consist of a transportable and prefabricated two-piece structure” including the base and the cabin, she noted.

Additionally, the councilwoman mentioned that “the structures will be equipped with an access ladder to the upper area,” while on the top “they will have a decked area, allowing the designated person to monitor from any position.”

On another note, she indicated that the booth includes “a gate on each side with 5-millimeter thick sliding methacrylate, so that surveillance can be carried out without any problem on inclement days, in addition to ensuring it against breakages.”

Other features of the new towers include their resistance to ultraviolet radiation, moisture, impacts, and aggressions, as well as requiring no maintenance or replacement. Thus, and thanks to their composition, their durability over time is guaranteed, the councilwoman added.
