Marbella hosts Spain’s first MotoSurf World Championship Grand Prix with 70 riders this weekend

Marbella enters the international MotoSurf calendar this weekend. From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September 2026, the city will host a round of the UIM MotoSurf World Championship for the first time, becoming the first Spanish city to stage an event in this global competition.

The races will take place at El Lago Club at Real de la Quinta, where around 70 riders from 20 countries are expected to compete across men’s, women’s and junior categories.

It will be a rare opportunity to see one of the world’s fastest-growing motorised water sports on the Costa del Sol.

What is MotoSurf?

MotoSurf combines elements of surfing and motorsport.

Riders compete on motorised boards, navigating a marked course on the water at speed. Balance, precision and control are just as important as raw pace.

Unlike traditional surfing, the boards generate their own propulsion, so competitors do not need waves to race.

The championship is recognised by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and attracts some of the leading international specialists in the discipline.

The organisers also highlight the sport’s move towards more sustainable technology, including the use of greener fuel solutions.

Three days of racing at Real de la Quinta

The Spanish Grand Prix begins on Friday with free practice and qualifying sessions.

Competition will intensify on Saturday with the main racing programme and semi-final rounds.

The decisive action will come on Sunday, 13 September, when the finals will determine the winners of Spain’s first-ever MotoSurf World Championship event.

Admission throughout the weekend will be free, allowing residents and visitors to watch the competition up close.

70 riders from 20 countries

The international scale of the event is one of its main attractions.

Around 70 competitors representing 20 countries will take part, placing Marbella alongside other international MotoSurf venues on the championship calendar.

The event will also be broadcast through official channels to audiences in around 80 countries, giving Marbella significant international exposure.

Marbella adds another international sports event

The MotoSurf World Championship joins a growing list of national and international competitions hosted in Marbella.

The setting is also unusual. Real de la Quinta, located in the hills between Marbella and Benahavís, offers a lake environment rather than an open-sea racing venue.

For Marbella, becoming the first Spanish host of the championship means associating the city with a young, highly visual sport capable of attracting both motorsport fans and audiences interested in new water-based disciplines.

The council has also indicated that the aim is for Marbella’s relationship with MotoSurf to continue beyond this first edition.
