Marbella hosts National Frontenis and Paleta Goma Open with 60 young players this weekend

Marbella will become a meeting point for some of Spain’s most promising young frontenis players this weekend. From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September 2026, the municipality will host the II National Frontenis and Paleta Goma Open, bringing together around 60 players for a total of 113 matches.

The competition, organised by the Marbella Frontenis Club in collaboration with the local Sports Department, will feature under-14 and under-16 categories, with both boys and girls taking part.

Players will travel from several parts of Spain, including the Canary Islands, Madrid, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León and Andalusia.

More than 100 matches across two venues

The tournament will be played at two locations: the Paco Cantos Sports Centre in Marbella and the fronton courts in San Pedro Alcántara.

Competition will begin on Friday afternoon, continue throughout Saturday and finish on Sunday at around 3:00 pm.

Using both venues at the same time will make it possible to stage the 113 scheduled matches over the course of the weekend.

Nine local players representing Marbella

Marbella will also have a strong local presence in the competition.

A total of nine players from the municipality will take part, giving them the opportunity to compete at home against young athletes from clubs and federations across Spain.

Most participants are aged between 12 and 15, making this an important event for players who are still developing their technical and competitive skills.

Young talent takes centre stage

The Open will focus entirely on youth categories in both frontenis and paleta goma.

These age groups often produce particularly fast and competitive matches, with players already gaining national tournament experience while continuing their sporting development.

Beyond the results, events like this also give young athletes the chance to face opponents from other regions, build experience and spend time with players and coaches from different clubs.

Improved facilities at Paco Cantos

The tournament comes after several upgrades to Marbella’s sports facilities.

The Paco Cantos Sports Centre has recently added new spectator stands, improving comfort for families and fans attending the matches.

The court lighting has also been renewed, while a new elastic safety net has been installed to improve playing conditions.

In San Pedro Alcántara, previous works at the fronton facilities doubled the number of available courts, making it possible to host several matches simultaneously.

Players and families arriving from across Spain

The impact of the event will extend beyond the competition itself.

Many young players will travel with parents, coaches and club staff, bringing visitors to both Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara throughout the weekend.

For some families, the event will also provide an opportunity to explore the area between matches, highlighting the growing importance of sports tourism for the municipality.

A busy sporting weekend in Marbella

The National Open will coincide with several other competitions taking place across Marbella.

A total of six sporting events at provincial, regional, national and international level are scheduled in different parts of the municipality over the weekend.

For frontenis fans, however, the focus will be firmly on the next generation, with around 60 young players and 113 matches making Marbella one of the main centres of youth frontenis in Spain for three days.
