Estepona Marathon reaches 1,000 registrations and will bring together runners from more than 50 nationalities
The first edition of the Estepona ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’ Marathon will take place on 11 October, with the coastal corridor as one of its main attractions and one of the most scenic seaside routes in southern Europe.
Estepona is preparing to host a major sporting event this autumn. The first edition of the Estepona ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’ Marathon has already reached 1,000 registered runners, a figure that confirms the interest generated by the race ahead of its debut on the international calendar.
The race will take place on Sunday 11 October 2026 and will offer two distances: 42K and 21K. The start is scheduled for 8.30 am from the Estepona Municipal Athletics Stadium, according to the official race website.
A race with international ambition
The new marathon has been created with a clear international outlook. According to Estepona Town Hall, runners from more than 50 nationalities are already registered for this first edition, with a notable presence of participants from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Ireland.
This international interest is also linked to Estepona’s location on the Costa del Sol and its connections with Málaga and Gibraltar airports, making it easier for foreign runners to combine sport, tourism and a Mediterranean experience.
Strong national and Málaga participation
National participation is also significant. 21% of participants come from outside Andalusia, with a particularly strong presence of runners from the Community of Madrid, who represent 6.1% of the total.
At the same time, the race maintains a strong local connection: the Town Hall states that 60% of national participants are runners from Málaga province, eager to be part of the debut of these 42 kilometres and 195 metres through Estepona.
The coastal corridor, the main attraction
One of the marathon’s biggest draws will be its route. The race will make use of a large part of Estepona’s coastal corridor, allowing runners to compete alongside the Mediterranean and offering one of the event’s strongest visual and sporting attractions.
The organisation presents the event as a high-quality experience for runners, away from the overcrowding of larger races and designed to offer a more carefully managed event from both a sporting and tourist perspective.
Registration open for the marathon and half marathon
Registration remains open through the official race website and the RockTheSport platform. The current price is €60 for the marathon and €35 for the half marathon, according to the information published by the Town Hall and the registration platform.
The official regulations state that the marathon will have a certified distance of 42,195 metres, will be governed by WA and RFEA rules, and will include refreshment points along the route.
Estepona strengthens its sporting profile
With this first edition, Estepona adds a major new event to its sporting and tourism calendar. The town aims to position itself as a destination for runners looking for more than just a race: a weekend of sport, coastline, climate, gastronomy and quality of life.
The support of the Town Hall, the involvement of public and private organisations, and the strong initial response from participants suggest that the Estepona Marathon could become one of the new key events in popular athletics on the Costa del Sol.
