‘Between Light and Colour’: nature inspires a new exhibition in La Cala de Mijas
Artist Livia Yolanda Molina-Bailén Luque brings together oil paintings and watercolours in an exhibition running at La Cala Cultural Centre until 19 July
La Cala Cultural Centre is hosting ‘Between Light and Colour’, a solo exhibition by artist Livia Yolanda Molina-Bailén Luque. The show offers a journey through landscapes, flowers, animals and figures in which nature, light and vibrant colour take centre stage.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19 July 2026, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to discover the work of an artist based on the Costa del Sol and enjoy a different cultural experience this summer.
Oil and watercolour bring nature to life
The collection combines oil paintings and watercolours, two techniques the artist uses depending on the effect she wants to achieve in each composition.
Watercolour brings transparency, softness and fluidity, while oil paint allows for greater depth, texture and intensity. The result is a varied body of work connected by Molina-Bailén Luque’s interest in light, colour and the small details found in the natural world.
The exhibition features flowers, birds, domestic animals, human figures, fossils and scenes inspired by marine life. This diversity creates a broad visual journey in which delicate compositions sit alongside more expressive and intense works.
An exhibition defined by colour and realism
The artist uses luminous palettes and strong contrasts to highlight the forms and textures within each scene. Natural elements are not treated merely as decorative subjects, but as an invitation to pause and observe details that often go unnoticed.
Many of the works combine realism with a personal interpretation of nature. The strength of an animal, the fragility of a flower or the reflection of light across a surface becomes the central focus of each composition.
The exhibition also provides an opportunity to bring the work of artists connected to the municipality closer to both local audiences and visitors, while strengthening La Cala de Mijas’ cultural programme at the beginning of summer.
Where and when to visit ‘Between Light and Colour’
The exhibition can be visited in the exhibition hall at La Cala Cultural Centre, in La Cala de Mijas, until 19 July 2026.
It is aimed both at art lovers and at anyone interested in discovering a show centred on nature, realism and the emotional power of colour.
Information about the exhibition, its location and dates has been published by Mijas Town Council.
