Opened in 1968, the Old Course, designed by Bernhard von Limburger, is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf courses on the Costa del Sol. The designer was responsible for developing 74 golf courses across Europe, although Atalaya Golf is the only course he designed in Spain. The New Course was inaugurated in 1990 and was designed by Paul Krings.

Unlike many other golf courses on the coast, Atalaya Golf was created as a golf club from the start and without intentions of real estate developments. This heritage allows both members and visitors to enjoy playing golf in a natural environment without interference from real estate promotions in the game.

Since its inception, Atalaya Golf was created as an open golf destination, where members and visitors would find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Indeed, a characteristic of the club is its diversity of nationalities, with more than 36 different nationalities, who enjoy golf in the sunniest place in Spain. The diversity attracts visitors from all over Europe and many more distant countries.

Throughout its history, the club has made numerous investments in its two golf courses and facilities. The development of a 5-year strategic plan with well-defined objectives ensures that maintenance and improvement of the golf courses are continuous, including a reforestation plan. Over more than 50 years, modifications have been made to Bernard von Limburger's original design aimed at improving players' experience and making the challenge more interesting. In 2017, a significant investment was made in hole 1 of the Old Course, making it a very attractive hole to start each game. At the same time, a new cafeteria and terrace were built where players can enjoy a refreshment or coffee just before starting or also when they finish the first 9 holes of the course. Uniquely, the tee of hole 1 is the roof of the cafeteria!

In 1998, Atalaya Golf built a large golf academy and a practice hole that includes all the surfaces and conditions necessary for training and learning every aspect of the game. See Golf Academy. In 2013, a fully equipped gym was also added to the clubhouse facilities and an outdoor terrace with views of the Old Course was built in 2011.
Recently, in 2018, a parking lot with a capacity of up to 150 vehicles was built next to the clubhouse, which also includes charging points for electric vehicles. In 2019, a comprehensive renovation of the clubhouse and restaurant was completed, providing a modern and attractive space where you can enjoy a drink or a meal after playing golf. See Restaurant

The club strives to maintain its position as one of the best destinations on the Costa del Sol and therefore will continue with the investment plan that will provide the best possible experience for members and visitors.
