Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga

In the very heart of Málaga's historic center, just steps from Marqués de Larios street and the Cathedral, the Museo Carmen Thyssen is housed in the Palacio de Villalón, a carefully restored 16th-century Renaissance building that is, in itself, one of the city's architectural gems. Its galleries hold one of the most complete collections of 19th and early 20th-century Spanish painting, with special emphasis on Andalusian and costumbrista scenes: landscapes, portraits and everyday life captured by artists such as Joaquín Sorolla, Julio Romero de Torres and Ricardo Verdugo Landi, among many others.

Beyond its permanent collection, the museum hosts top-level temporary exhibitions, guided tours — including theatrical ones —, classical music concerts and educational activities all year round, making it a living cultural venue that's constantly renewed. Beneath the building itself lies a visitable archaeological site, adding an extra layer of history to the visit. To round off the experience, its patio café serves breakfast, brunch and afternoon tea, with a 10% discount upon presenting your museum ticket.

The Foundation: The museum is run by a Foundation whose mission is the conservation, research and dissemination of the Carmen Thyssen Collection, with a special focus on 19th and early 20th-century Spanish painting. The Foundation is committed to transparency and civic participation through its Transparency Portal, and runs an active corporate outreach programme: the "Friends of the Museum" scheme (offering exclusive experiences, discounts and member activities), space rental for corporate events in a truly unique historic setting in central Málaga, and private visits outside regular hours with tailored guided tours.

Pairing a visit to the Museo Carmen Thyssen with a shopping stroll along Marqués de Larios makes for one of the most complete ways to discover Málaga's city center in a single morning: art, historic architecture and the best shops, all within walking distance.
